Bill Cosby Will Not Dignify Those Rape Accusations with a Response (But His Lawyer Will)

In case you missed it, there was some awkward business in an NPR interview between Scott Simon and Bill Cosby this weekend, when Simon asked Cosby about the rape accusations that have resurfaced and gained steam in recent weeks. You can listen to that interview here, but here’s a transcript of the awkwardness:

SCOTT SIMON: “This question gives me no pleasure, Mr. Cosby, but there have been serious allegations raised about you in recent days.”

SIMON: “You’re shaking your head no. I’m in the news business. I have to ask the question. Do you have any response to those charges?”

SIMON: “Shaking your head no. There are people who love you who might like to hear from you about this. I want to give you the chance.”

Not only that, but in addition to Barbara Bowman speaking out about her sexual assault, yet another accuser came forward to reveal the details behind two alleged rapes.

Bill Cosby is not a good man.

But the 77 year old is not going to talk about the accusations. Ever. He’s not even going to make that announcement himself. He gave his lawyer the unenviable task of releasing a statement.

Here’s what Cosby’s lawyer had to say on the subject:

Over the last several weeks, decade-old, discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced. The fact that they are being repeated does not make them true. Mr. Cosby does not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment. He would like to thank all his fans for the outpouring of support and assure them that, at age 77, he is doing his best work. There will be no further statement from Mr. Cosby or any of his representatives.

Cosby may not want to talk about those allegations, but you can bet your ass that until Cosby does address them publicly, his career is over. He can refuse to speak to the allegations to his heart’s delight, but he will be hounded by them until he addresses the accusations.

I doubt he ever does. Chances are, Cosby just crawls into a hole and disappears.

That’s just fine with me.
