Bill Cosby was convicted today of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand (pictured), a former Temple University employee. He faces 30 years in prison on three counts of aggravated indecent assault — penetration with lack of consent, penetration while unconscious, and penetration after administering an intoxicant. That’s criminal-speak for rape, and don’t anyone forget it.

This was the second criminal trial against Cosby for the crimes; the first ended in a deadlocked jury. Here, the verdict was returned within 13 hours. Though everyone knew that Cosby had raped Constand, there is still obviously some surprise over the conviction, as too many of us have been conditioned to believe that famous, powerful people always get off.

Cosby reportedly delivered a profanity-laced tirade against the prosecutor after the prosecutor asked that bail be denied on the grounds that he’s a flight risk. “He doesn’t have a plane, you a-hole!” Cosby yelled, which is ironic given how many years he performed stand-up without cursing.

Cosby has been released on bail, nevertheless, until sentencing, although he had to give up his passport and is not allowed to leave the state.
