If you’ve ever been to a gala auction, you’ve probably seen items up for bid like an upscale vacation package, some wine, maybe a gift basket of nice lotions. Well, for today’s reminder that celebrities are NOT AT ALL like us, I’d like to present to you: The amFAR Cinema Against AIDS event in Cannes. The event was attended by pretty much everyone who’s ever won an Oscar (plus Justin Bieber), and brought in $35 million.
Some of the items up for auction included:
-An Andy Warhol painting of Marilyn Monroe (€350,000)
-An original Picasso (€380,000)
-A bunch of red ball gowns for $3.5 mil
-An executive producer credit on the movie Triple Nine. This sold for $130,000, and does not include “any profit sharing, royalties or compensation associated with this film or any Worldview movie productions past or present.” In other words, just to be clear: THIS DOES NOT ACTUALLY MAKE YOU A REAL FILM PRODUCER.
-21 bottles of champagne (at $180,000 that’s over $8,500 PER BOTTLE)
-A Weinstein Company Oscar weekend package. Basically, $100,000 to party with JLaw
-A TRIP TO SPACE WITH LEONARDO DICAPRIO (For the second year in a row, he’s auctioned off a seat on the 2015 Virgin Galactic flight. This means you have one more year to scrounge up a million dollars!)
-A FUCKING MAMMOTH FOSSIL COATED IN STEEL AND GOLD LEAF.
A mammoth. A f*cking mammoth. This just… I have nothing to say. I need to go sleep for…ever.
