Actor-director Asia Argento, one of the most prominent accusers of Harvey Weinstein, accused director Rob Cohen of sexual assault. In an interview with Il Corriere della Sera, Argento detailed her allegations, which she says took place while working on the Cohen film xXx in 2002. She said:
‘It’s the first time I’m talking about Cohen. He abused me, making me drink GHB, he had a bottle of it. At the time, I really didn’t know what it was. I woke up in the morning naked in his bed.’
Argento’s alleged assault is detailed in her upcoming memoir, Anatomy of a Wild Heart, which will be released in Italy this week. Argento also said that, once she fully realized what had happened to her with Cohen, she initially ‘did not want to create another storm’ but felt the need to come forward after discovering that two other women had spoken out against Cohen.
This is not the first time that Cohen has been accused of sexual assault. In 2019, an anonymous accuser told The Huffington Post that the filmmaker allegedly raped her in 2015 when she was unconscious in a hotel room. His own daughter, Valkyrie Weather, accused him of molesting her as a child, an incident that her mother, Cohen’s first wife, Diana Mitzner, told The Hollywood Reporter she had witnessed. Cohen denies all of these incidents, and, in a statement given to Variety, called Argento’s claims ‘categorically false.’
Argento became a major figure in the #MeToo campaign after she detailed her alleged experiences of assault at the hands of Harvey Weinstein in 2017. She was later accused of sexually assaulting actor Jimmy Bennett during the production of her film The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things.
