In the critically heralded 2017 drama, Call Me By Your Name, Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet played lovers. They may again for director Luca Guadagnino’s proposed sequel. Considering how crazy audiences went for the love story of Elio and Oliver, it’s little wonder that fans of Chalamet went wild when Hammer responded to the ingedude’s Instagram post with some sexually explicit emojis.
It began with this pensive selfie.
In response, Hammer replies with this:
For those that don’t speak emoji: eggplants translate to erections. The droplets in this context symbolize—well, that should be as obvious. Then hearts and fire mean Hammer is very enthusiastic about this pic.
That spurred over 230,000 likes and 10,000+ replies! Many of which were emojis of laughing faces, crying faces, hearts, cries of “CALL HIM” and the requisite “weird flex but okay.”
The fervor over Hammer’s reply hit such a fevered pitch that Variety reached out to the star for a reaction. His response to the outlet might douse fan enthusiasm.
“People got so excited. I don’t think they realized I was actually making fun of how ridiculous people sound on the internet now.”
Silly fans, thinking you understood that. Clearly, they’re the *ssholes here. (Insert sarcasm emoji here.)
