Armie Hammer is apologizing. No, not for that. Or that. Definitely not that. The other thing, the one we didn’t have any real questions or fears about.

Over the past couple of weeks, actor Armie Hammer has been accused multiple times of sexual assault. After various alleged DMs sent by Hammer to an ex of his, featuring startlingly violent language, went viral, other women came forward to discuss their own allegedly fraught and manipulative encounters with him. As I wrote about previously, Hammer was accused of hurting various sexual partners, with one woman saying that he left her feeling ‘mentally, physically, emotionally, financially’ hurt. Most of the Hammer story has been reported only vaguely and hesitantly by the mainstream media, who don’t seem to know how to handle allegations like this that veer into the world of BDSM and kink. Most have relied on jokes or victim-blaming, or have reduced the story entirely to ‘weird DMs.’ Hammer claimed that the accusations were ‘bullsh*t’ but that hasn’t quashed the growing volume of voices and questions. He recently pulled out of an upcoming movie, and The Daily Mail acquired videos of Hammer licking white crystals off of a friend’s hand.

The thing that Hammer is apologizing for relates to another exclusive obtained by The Daily Mail. The paper got hold of images and videos from Hammer’s private Instagram account, wherein he bragged about the drug tests he had to take in order to see his children. In one of those videos, he showed an unidentified woman in lingerie on her hands and knees on a hotel bed. He called her ‘Miss Cayman.’ What Hammer is super sorry about is that said woman isn’t actually the official Miss Cayman and he wanted to clear that up.

On Sunday, Hammer sent a public apology via audio message to the Cayman Compass to ‘clarify’ that the woman in the ‘stolen’ Instagram video is not Miss Cayman. ‘I am genuinely sorry for any confusion my foolish attempt at humour may have caused.’

Dude, THIS is the thing you want to single out to express sadness over? Really?! Who’s advising you, Rudy Giuliani?! Hammer is currently residing in the Cayman Islands along with his estranged wife Elizabeth Chambers and their two children, so maybe this was a big issue there and he had to smooth it over to prevent local drama. It seems like not seeing the forest for the trees but whatever. Given that Hammer is accused of much more violent and traumatic acts against women, it feels like maybe we should focus on the words of his alleged victims right now.
