Armie Hammer Accused of Rape

Armie Hammer is currently under investigation after a woman accused him of rape this week.

The woman, who gave her name only as Effie, made the allegations during a virtual news conference on Thursday. She was represented by Gloria Allred. Effie alleged that she first met Hammer on Facebook in 2016, when she was 20, and that, after a whirlwind relationship, Hammer used ‘manipulation tactics in order to exert control over me.’ She accused him of abusing her ‘mentally, emotionally and sexually’, and alleged that he raped her ‘for over four hours in Los Angeles, during which he repeatedly slapped my head against a wall, bruising my face. During those four hours, I tried to get away and he wouldn’t let me. I thought that he was going to kill me.’ At the time of this reported attack, Hammer was still married to Elizabeth Chambers.

Hammer’s lawyer dismissed the allegations and sent a number of publications reporting on the matter various screenshots of text messages with the woman that they claim exonerates Hammer. As The Hollywood Reporter noted in their coverage of the story, the lawyer’s statement included Effie’s full name, which they declined to publish.

Allred says that Effie has already provided evidence of Hammer’s alleged sexual abuse to law enforcement, including photographs. Allred also refused to comment on whether or not this Effie is the woman behind @houseofeffie, the Instagram account that first alleged abuse by Hammer. Said account went viral thanks to its exceedingly detailed series of messages purported to be from Hammer that detailed what has now become infamous in terms of his purported kinks. Several days after screenshots of messages appeared on social media, Hammer was either removed from or voluntarily exited various projects he was attached to. He was later dropped by his agency and publicist.

These developments follow multiple women who have gone on the record to allege aggressive sexual coercion and mental abuse from Hammer. One former girlfriend, Paige Lorenze, accused the actor of coercing her into an unwanted sexual relationship that left her with bruising and the letter A carved into her pelvis region. In a recent piece on Hammer and his family history published in Vanity Fair, another former girlfriend, Courtney Vucenovich, checked herself into a treatment program for trauma after their split.
