She Gotta Dance: Amy Adams and Tim Burton Did a Gorgeously Creepy Thing Together

Ah, fairy tales, those comforting bedtime stories we love to read to our children…so they can never fall asleep ever again.

In conjunction with her December Vogue cover story, Amy Adams and Tim Burton — with whom she recently made Big Eyes — did an Annie Leibovitz fairy tale inspired photo shoot; this one based on Hans Christian Andersen’s The Red Shoes. If you’ve never read the story, it’s about a little sinner girl (dead parents, of course) with magical dancing shoes that take over first her mind, then her feet, leaving her unable to ever stop dancing (not even for church!). On an unwilling prance through a wooded area, the girl (Karen) meets an executioner who she asks to cut off her feet — he obliges — then carves her a new pair of wooden feet so Karen can…get back to church in time to meet up with the dancing shoes again. In the end, mentally and physically broken, little Karen repents (for ever coveting red shoes), and is spirited away to heaven.

Well, of course Tim Burton had to get involved with that sort of a story (let’s just be thankful Johnny Depp didn’t show up). It does make me love Adams just a little more when I get to see her dark side (The Master), so I’m loving these beautifully creepy shots (click photos to enlarge).
