A Reminder to Anyone Who Thinks Leslie Jones Ruined 'Ghostbusters': The Original Ghostbusters Hate You

While no one here (or anywhere) is going to take the time to poll the interests of the demented cretins who spewed their racist hate at Leslie Jones over the last few days, it’s pretty obvious that many of them have no interest in Ghostbusters, or probably much context for Jones herself. They just saw a very public target for their vile racism, and aimed at it.

However, a lot of those trolls were combining their ignorance, racism, and misogyny, with an actual love of the original Ghostbusters movie. If you went to the profiles of these man-shaped excrement loafs in an attempt to report their hate, you saw a lot of anime avatars, a lot of comic book character headers and video game tributes. In short, they’re nerds. And while nerds can be quick to hate, their status as such is first and (in an ideal world) foremost rooted in love. So yes, there were a lot of people who masked their racism and misogyny in a Ghostbusters shield. But there were others— maybe more— who let their racism and misogyny infect their very real love of a decades-old franchise. They let their disgustingly warped view of the world build them up into self-appointed geek property defenders. And for all of those geeks who really do love Ghostbusters, but hate women and people of color more, one original Ghostbuster has some words for them.

Specifically, that they’re morons.

As Dan Aykroyd told Canada’s Entertainment Tonight, he thinks Leslie Jones is a “great writer and a great comedian.”

And as for everyone bombarding her with their racist tweets:

These people, first of all, they’re insignificant gnats. They have no lives of their own, they can barely pay for the wi-fi they’re using, probably no jobs. I would say you’re looking at obese, white men between 50 and 60, who are active Klan members or members of the Aryan Nation, and there are millions of them.

You didn’t have to love or even like the new Ghostbusters. But if your feelings about it are soaked in a hatred of Leslie Jones that have nothing to do with the actual movie— especially if you then felt the need to make that hate known loudly and publicly— please remember that she has the approval of Dan Aykroyd. And you do not.
