Here's A First Look At Taika Waititi As Hitler In "Jojo Rabbit" And Yes I Still Would

Nobody can pull off “Polynesian Jew Hitler” quite like Taika Waititi. In fact, I dare anyone else to try. New Zealand’s 3rd most famous export (the list goes: Dairy products, meat, Taika, wool and wool products, fish, machinery) is dressed as Adolf Hitler for his upcoming film JoJo Rabbit. Here’s a first look at Taika’s Hitler cosplay (Roseanne Barr, eat your filthy black heart out).

Taika wrote, directed and stars in Jojo Rabbit alongside Scarlett Johansson. According to Entertainment Weekly:

The film follows a young boy, Jojo, in Nazi Germany who dreams of joining Hitler’s ranks (and who conjures the dictator as an imaginary friend) and then discovers that his mother is hiding a Jew in their home.

Sam Rockwell is in it too, he plays a Nazi officer. But as great as Sam Rockwell is, I’d like to get back to fanning myself over Taika, who is an absolute delight (and my favorite director whose name I can’t pronounce coherently while drunk).

Taika first burst onto the scene when his second feature, 2010’s Boy (his first was the odd but amusing Eagle vs Shark), became a Sundance darling. But if you’ve ever met a Kiwi, you were probably hearing about how great and funny he is years before that. Originally a comedian (he and Jemaine Clement started out together as a comedy duo), Taika went on to write and direct the iconic What We Do In The Shadows (also with Jemaine), Hunt For The Wilderpeople (starring Deadpool’s young Julian Dennison) and a little indie side project called Thor: Ragnarok. So yeah, he’s super smart and talented but is he any good? What I mean is, like, can he pull off a pineapple romper with aplomb?

Asked and answered! And color me suddenly very thirsty for more.

Czech yourself before you Ragnawreck yourself.

Taika’s fashion game even gave Jeff Goldblum the vapors. In a Vulture interview, Jeff said:

“Seeing Taika on this press tour, he wore this pineapple-printed onesie of some kind that made a big impression on me and many other people. Oh! And at the premiere, he had this brown suit and … oh boy. It … uh …” Goldblum tried to find the words. His voice dropped to a whisper. “It set my brain on fire,” he finally said.

Taika slayed in his GQ photo shoot from November as well.

Handsome, well-dressed, talented and funny? Chris who? Never heard of ‘em. Taika’s the best. Period.
