Game of Thrones Spoilers, Yada Yada

Whatever you might think about the real fate of Jon Snow — who was presumably killed off at the end of season five of Game of Thrones — there’s plenty of speculation that he’s not actually dead, despite his (and others’) assertions to the contrary.

Joanna has a couple of great theory posts on the fate of Jon Snow over on Vanity Fair, including a piece yesterday in which she enumerated five reasons that Jon Snow may still be alive. She sold me on it.

Except for one fact: Shooting on Game of Thrones season six begins in July, and Kit Harington — who plays Jon Snow — will be shooting a movie called Brimstone.

That film — from writer/director Martin Koolhoven — is in principal photography now, and will be shooting in in Romania, Spain and Germany. The movie also stars Dakota Fanning, as Liz, “a heroine on the run from her past and chased by [Guy] Pearce’s character, the diabolical Preacher. The movie is described as ‘a vivid and powerful epic of one woman’s defiant resistance.’”

OK, whatever. It doesn’t sound like a movie I’m that interested in. I’m more interested in its potential to conflict with the shooting schedule of Game of Thrones because not only does Kit Harington star in the movie, but so does Carice van Houten, who plays Melisandre in Game of Thrones.

Melisandre is not dead in Game of Thrones, and she’s already begun teasing her “big role” in season six, which will be “quite spectacular.”

So, maybe Brimstone doesn’t conflict. Or maybe Melisandra will be killed off early on. Or maybe Kit Harington won’t be in season six of Game of Thrones, but he will return in the final season, which Joanna also suggested was a possibility.

We could basically drive ourselves mad trying to guess, but if the Internet is going to ruin season six, this is a fairly good curveball.
