'The New Mutants' Is Doing Reshoots With A New Character, But Could It Be Good News?

Director Josh Boone’s The New Mutants lost its April 2018 release date and was pushed to February 2019. After what we thought was a promising, horror-filled, and interesting trailer, some of us were a bit dismayed.

Why would the flick be pushed back nearly a year unless something really terrible had happened with either studio meddling or terrible early screenings? I speculated that there may be reshoots, but star Maisie Williams told ScreenRant that there were not going to be any reshoots.

“I think everything you’ve just rattled off is just rumors. But we’re releasing early next year and I’m properly excited. I’ve seen little parts of it and I’ve done a load of ADR for it and it’s really exciting watching it all back. It feels a long while since we’ve done it, and I always enjoy going seeing little bits of it before it’s released, so I’m looking forward to it coming out.” - ScreenRant

Here we are, a week later, and now The Hollywood Reporter says that there will be reshoots that will take place this summer and insert a new character into the flick. What. The. Hell.

That’s insanity. Or is it genius?

When I mentioned this news to the other Pajiba staff, Seth had a theory that I decided to subscribe to that concerns another FOX mutant movie that’s been only rumored.

What if the reshoots for The New Mutants involve the addition of Kitty Pryde into the mix?

In January it was announced that Tim Miller (Deadpool) and Brian Michael Bendis would be working on an X-Men mystery movie revealed to be titled 143. Nerds immediately pointed out that 143 is the number of The Uncanny X-Men issue where Kitty Pryde is left in the mansion alone on Christmas Eve and has to face N’Garai demon.

Given that The New Mutants is focusing on horror instead of villains and costumes, it would make sense for the studio to pop Kitty Pryde into the mix and pave the way for her solo flick later. A demon fight would fit nicely with the imagery from the trailers we’ve seen thus far.

Does this mean they didn’t rehire Ellen Page though?
