Watch Seth Meyers' Pitch Perfect Golden Globes Monologue

My cable went out right before the Golden Globes last night and I had to reset it, and it didn’t come back on until Sam Rockwell was delivering the first acceptance speech of the night, so I missed Seth Meyers’ monologue. I finally caught it this morning, and it is as was advertised on Twitter: A more perfect monologue from a straight white male there could not be. He did not pussyfoot around controversy. He did not Fallon his monologue. He confronted the elephants in the room, and he called out Harvey and Spacey (and did so gloriously).

I’m not saying that Tina and Amy would not have been better hosts, but Seth straight-white male’d the monologue about as well as you can straight-white male a monologue. Seth may be a kinder, more likable and more woke Jon Stewart, and he absolutely nailed this monologue, bringing out the best bit in late night: Jokes Seth Can’t Tell.

The best — and most uneasy — joke of the night: “Harvey Weinstein isn’t here tonight because, well, I’ve heard rumors that he’s crazy and difficult to work with. But don’t worry. He’ll be back in 20 years when he becomes the first person ever booed during the In Memoriam.”

Perfect joke is perfect.
