These 'Stranger Things' Stars Are Moonlighting As Rock Stars
We’ve seen some of the Stranger Things cast sing before, but it seemed to be relegated to late night sketches or the National Anthem. It’s clear that Gaten Matarazzo, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp have got pipes. What’s surprising is that some of the cast are in actual bands, playing gigs and recording music.
Matarazzo and his sister, Sabrina, sang the National Anthem at a Mets game in 2015. Matarazzo has also performed in several Broadway musicals like Les Misérables, but what I just learned is that he and his sister are in a band called Work In Progress. The six member band does covers of music from the early 2000s and Gaten and Sabrina appear to share the vocals with another band member filling in when Gaten is unavailable. According to Matarazzo’s Instagram, his younger brother is also in the band.
Work In Progress recently played at Stone Pony in New Jersey and there are videos.
Work In Progress sold out both of their Stone Pony shows, which only makes sense when you combine the great taste of cover songs with the chewy goodness of a star to create your band.
Wolfhard is in a band called Calpurnia where he’s the lead singer and rhythm guitarist.
Calpurnia was signed to Royal Mountain Records in November 2017 and the band is working on its first album with Twin Peaks’ Cadien Lake James. I don’t know these people, but Twin Peaks has been around since 2009 or 2010.
This is fine. It’s fine.
Keery was never included in the sketch singing or anything else, but he is also in a band. Post Animal is described as only as a “rock n roll band from Chicago” and have released several songs and one album.
I was trying to choose words to describe Post Animal’s sound and I couldn’t, but I think that I like it the best out of the three here. It’s sort of psychedelic with indie and rock or—I don’t know. It’s catchy as all hell though.
I look forward to Millie Bobby Brown’s all-female Motley Crue cover band with rewritten lyrics.
