What I'm Watching on Wednesdays
Fall Sweepstacular / The TV Whore
November 15, 2006
Welcome to day three of this here TV Whore Falls Sweepstacular. As you surely know, today is Wednesday, my friends — hump day! By the time you get home from work or school or whatever it is you do, you’ll be past the half-way point of yet another miserable week, and the warm glow of your television will be there to welcome you with open arms. Here’s how my TV welcomes me on Wednesday nights:
“Jericho” (CBS, 8 p.m.). I’ve learned several things from this show that will be very useful when I’m finally in charge of a TV network some day (it’ll happen — believe it!). Lesson one: don’t hire Skeet Ulrich. He looks like Johnny Depp with AIDS and can’t act his way out of a fallout shelter. Lesson two: if I’m handed a show with a fantastic premise, I will create characters that live up to that premise, not characters that pointlessly float through it. Lesson three: if I’m lucky enough get someone with the kind of acting chops that Gerald McRaney showed on “Deadwood,” I sure as hell won’t waste him by incapacitating his character for no good reason (sure, “Deadwood” did the same thing with Swearengen, but that actually served the show’s story). And finally, lesson four: seriously dude, don’t hire Skeet Skeet Skeet.
OK, so all that being said, why am I still watching? After all, I don’t care one iota about any of the characters — the displaced tax assessor, the spoiled rich daughter who’s embarrassed to like the freaky poor kid, the insanely unbelievable storeowner hoarding the town’s antiques like a dragon, the husband-stealing bartender who apparently never watches that TV in her bar or she’d know they never leave their wives when they say they’re going to leave … seriously, I don’t care about any of them. But, the underlying premise of this show was fantastic, and I’m still curious to see where the overarching story is going. Who blowed cities up? Why for? How do the survivors collectively reestablish a national community? For now, I’m interested enough in these questions to keep watching. But only with one eye.
“Criminal Minds” (CBS, 9 p.m.). “Criminal Minds,” meanwhile, gets the full pair of my peepers. I’m not a huge procedural fan — I don’t watch any of the “CSI”s, only one of the “L&O”s, etc. — but this one gets me. I think it’s because it’s psychological rather than forensical (I’m gonna make up a new word in every damn one of these columns, I tell you what). And two years into the swing of things, the show just seems to be getting stronger. The characters have been fairly well developed and individualized, and the writers are doing a pretty solid job at keeping the stories and twists fresh — fresh compared to prior episodes and, more importantly, fresh compared to the other shows out there.
And of course, it doesn’t hurt that Mandy Patinkin is the man. Not as great as he was on “Dead Like Me” or “Chicago Hope,” but that’s mainly because of his character being significantly more internal and toned down than his prior roles. But he’s still a joy to watch. As is most of the rest of the cast. Hell, Thomas Gibson has even managed to wash the “Dharma & Greg” stench off of himself, something I didn’t think he’d ever be able to do.
“The Nine” (ABC, 10 p.m.). This sucker was one of my favorite pilots over the summer. I thought it was gripping and rife with potential. But then it all went downhill. Fast. Like “Standoff,” this show has been removed from the regular rotation. But since I had been with it up till about a week or two ago, I thought it fair to include the show anyways.
As for why, specifically, I’m not watching anymore?
One-word answer. Two syllables. Rhymes with whoring.
“Inside the NFL” (HBO, 10 p.m.). I’m pretty sure this is the last time there will be any football references this week, and for all you sports haters out there, I’ll try to keep it brief. This show’s been on the air for a long time, and it’s mainly for one reason. NFL Films produces the highlights packages and, as any football fan knows, NFL Films has an uncanny ability to make even the most boring game look like an intense blitzkrieg (thanks in no small part to my Philly man, Hall of Fame announcer Harry Kalas, who’s provided excellent voice work since the passing of John “the Voice of God” Facenda). And overall, I enjoy the show’s analysis and discussion too. Costas is always entertaining. Marino can do no wrong in my book, even if he is kind of an idiot. Say what you will about Chris Collinsworth, but he generally knows his shit. And Peter King is a welcome component as well (although I kinda miss fat Peter King).
In fact, I only have two real complaints. One — Chris Carter. Yes, he was briefly on my beloved Eagles. But I don’t care. He’s a mush mouth and just doesn’t add anything to the show. Two — I hate hate hate that they don’t show highlights from every game anymore. They decided to cut back, so they could do more in-depth “focus” pieces. Well, fuck that. HBO already has “Real Sports” (great show!) and Costas’ off-season show (its name seems to change every year, so I dunno what the hell it’s called now), which both do plenty of these focus pieces. So lose the crap and gimme back my highlight packages, eh?
“Daybreak” (ABC, 9 p.m.). Well, sure, I haven’t actually watched “Daybreak” yet, since it doesn’t premiere until tonight, but I will be watching it, so I thought I should mention that. My expectations for this show are capital-L Low, but I enjoy me some Taye Diggs so I’ll give it a shot.
And that’s it for Wednesday nights.
Nothing else to see here folks; move along.
…
…sigh.
Yeah, OK, I guess I do need to talk about the big one. Hell, I even parodied its logo for this column’s picture and all that.
“Lost” (ABC, 9 p.m.). Well you see, here’s the thing … it’s just that … well, you know.
Fuck you, “Lost!”
Seriously, man, fuck you long, fuck you hard, fuck you seven ways to Sunday.
Two-and-a-half motherfucking years and we’ve gotten almost nowhere. Hell, they even managed to basically make all of the second season, which was already unfulfilling, relatively pointless. The Tailies? Obviously not that important, ‘cause they all dead now. The Hatch? Fucking blowed up (which means that, instead of pushing buttons for years and years, why not just let it blow originally, push the damn emergency button, and let that be that, since things seem just fine now?). Michael and Walt? Gone.
Two-and-a-half motherfucking years and we’ve gotten almost nowhere. Old questions remain unanswered, and yet they just keep dumping more and more crap onto our plates. For example, here’s one for you, if you can even remember this. Way back when our Losties first found that cave some of them were living in for a while, there were some skeletons in there. And a bag with some black and white rocks. It was played up as kinda a big deal at the time, yet not a mention of it since. Not one sniff. Hell, they haven’t even told us how Locke ended up in his wheelchair — they just keep stretching out even the most basic shit.
Two-and-a-half motherfucking years and we’ve gotten almost nowhere. Have we learned anything that actually matters in any character flashback this season? The “themes” of every damn flashback just reinforce shit we already know about these characters from prior flashbacks. Take last week’s “season finale” … please! (Bah-dump-bum.) We learned that Kate was married and in love but had to run off because it wouldn’t stick, since she’s on the lam and all that. Which we already got before, when that old man love of hers got killed. Nothing … fucking … new.
You know, some folks have been making a big deal about the fact that “Criminal Minds” has been giving “Lost” a run for its money, ratings-wise, in this time slot. Well I’m not even remotely surprised. That show wraps up all its shit in a nice, simple hour. If “Lost” wrapped up any of its fucking loose ends over the course of a bloody season, that’d be a start and a marked improvement.
But yet … I still fucking watch. Like “Jericho,” I’m intrigued by the bigger story (even though you’ll never convince me that they have this shit all mapped out — they lost my faith on that issue about halfway through season two). And worse yet, I’m invested. I should just take my loss and sell, but I keep hoping against hope that the market will pick back up. Deep down I know it won’t, but I just can’t help myself.
Besides, sometimes it’s nice to have something to bitch about.
… and with all that off my chest, Wednesday is now officially closed. Now if you’re real smart and think things through, you can probably guess what I’m writing about tomorrow. In the meantime, if you ain’t read them yet, you can check out my earlier columns down below. Or skip ‘em and go get some grub or a beer. That works, too.
Update: Wow, I don’t know how this happened, but a comment made me realize that “South Park” totally snuck by somehow. I’ve been a huge fan since downloading their original Christmas clip from the early 90’s version of peer-to-peer (yes Marge, I’m a geek!), and it’s amazing how solid this show has remained over the years. Great stuff.

"The Tailies? Obviously not that important, 'cause they all dead now."
NO! Goddamnit. I know I took a gamble when I read your comments (not having seen any of S3 yet), but SPITFUCKSHIT. It's not so much the spoiler I gave my own self, here, as it is learning that Echo is leaving the show. "Lost" won by casting the incomparable 'Adibisi' from "Oz"...he will be missed.
(And Bernard, too? Jesus, it's a bloodbath.)
Posted by: ranylt at November 15, 2006 9:14 AM
Lost lost me this season with their refusal to have any scenes including Rose & Bernard, the forgotten tailies.
Posted by: Noelle at November 15, 2006 9:34 AM
Man, did that whole Rose and Bernard thing completely wash out.
Posted by: Anonoguy at November 15, 2006 9:36 AM
Fuck you Lost indeed.
They've been throwing away the proverbial carrot at the end of the pole instead of feeding us with it, each time. And I've not been as interested in the new things they dangle just out of reach for many more episodes than I should have watched.
Posted by: Sunsneezer at November 15, 2006 10:20 AM
I am with ya on Criminal Minds! That is the only show I make a point of watching each week. I was heartbroken to find out DLM had been cancelled (but at least I have DVDs!), so finding out that Patinkin was in a new awesome show helped heal the pain!
I have to say that I'm happy Elle is gone though. But otherwise I love all of the characters, especially Garcia.
Posted by: SV at November 15, 2006 10:36 AM
OK, I agree with all you say about LOST. And yet, I cannot stop watching!!! I freaking love it. It drives me insane, I hate most of the female characters and want them to die (Die, Kate, die!!!), but Wednesday nights, I find myself inexplicably glued to my tv. And I know I'll be going crazy by February, waiting for a new show. Damn you, LOST!!
Posted by: Stef at November 15, 2006 10:48 AM
Second your (and Stef's) motion about Lost. You know you're watching bullshit without any direction. But you've already given it so much of your time and attention, it would be pointless to quit the thing now.
It's like a good friend you met on your first day in college, that later turns out to be an yawn-spawning bore, but.."hey, he's a mate, what can you do? I still want to do his sister."
Luckily enough we have the break, so I can catch up on my Dexters.
Posted by: Jeff K at November 15, 2006 11:21 AM
I, like most of you, now have a love/hate relationship with Lost. I probably should never have even started watching it but alas I'm screwed now. I won't even go into all the untouched and unanswered questions from both seasons 1 & 2 but suffice to say they will not be addressed any time soon. There simply isn't enough time. And don't get me started on this 3 1/2 month hiatus.. ugh.. I used to watch Criminal Minds but sometime last year I got sick of procedural crime dramas..
Maybe I should revisit in Lost absentia..
Posted by: Joel at November 15, 2006 11:28 AM
I stopped watching Lost the third episode in the second season. I was a diehard fan the first season but hell, it went no where! That and they killed off my favorite actor (not character). Bastards.
Posted by: Jorge at November 15, 2006 11:28 AM
Another lover/hater of "Lost" here, for all the reasons the reviewer gives. But for me the real insult this season was the sudden, totally inexplicable and unnecessary inclusion of the "redshirt" couple, Paulo and Fembot. WTF??!!! It's like they decided that Rose and Bernard weren't appealing to the male 14-24 demographic, because they're old and fat, so they focus on these two instead. Basically, this mini-season was all about the fascinating *not* Kate/Sawyer romance. Total waste of time. Of course, I'll keep watching the show until the day it, or I, dies.
Posted by: Rosemary at November 15, 2006 12:03 PM
I started watching Lost in Season 2 (I caught about half the first season on reruns) and had no problem catching up. That should've been a red flag, but my wife LOVES the show. But she loves puzzle books and actual puzzles, so this is perfect for her. I've been making fun of the show this season while watching it because, as has been metioned, it is sooooooooo fucking empty and pointless!!!
On top of the previous complaints, I have a couple of others:
1. With all these people dying everywhere, sometimes very graphically, why isn't anyone cracking up? You're telling me that dozens of people are stuck on this island in the middle of nowhere, people are dying left and right, there are monsters in the forest, they're being attacked by an unknown group of psychos called "The Others", and no one is losing it? Really? Hell, if I spend 3 nights in a hotel and the ice machine on my floor breaks I'm ready to start regressing like William Hurt in Altered States. The writers really need to focus on people losing touch with reality to bring some realism to the story. Speaking of . . .
2. What is going on with the people on the beach? It's like they're not important anymore. Hurley was on the verge of becoming a breakout star and they shoved him to the side, only to pop up suddenly and say something snarky around the word "dude".
3. I don't care about The Others. They're weird, their actions are completely ridiculous, and they're stupid. Follow me on this one: You know you have a tumor on your spine (and don't get me started on the obvious nature of this twist) and you know there's a top-notch spinal surgeon right over that ridge. So instead of making nice and asking him to please save your life, you proceed to harass, terrorize, imprison, kidnap, and generally mind-fuck the people that include the one guy that YOU NEED ON YOUR FUCKING GOOD SIDE!!!!!! How does this make sense???
O.K. I'll put this soap box away now. I could go on like this for about 5000 more words. I need good news here people.
And just to end this off with a whimper, the writers have admitted that they just throw shit into the episodes not knowing where it will lead or if it means anything at all.
Jerk-offs.
Posted by: Kballs at November 15, 2006 12:09 PM
WTF, are you guys watching a different Criminal Minds then I am??? Sure, Mandy Patinkin (oh and my tv boyfriend Matthew Grey Gubler) but that show has the WORST plotting on television. The season finale... the fisher king's online anagram name being 'sir kneif'? What. Every episode surprises me with how badly, obviously contrived it is. They're like short stories written by Grade 9 English students.
Oh and yeah, fuck you Lost.
Posted by: Elenor at November 15, 2006 12:14 PM
okay, everyone needs to listen up and listen good. I once had the same issues with Lost that you all have. You know what I did? I came to terms with it! I realized that Lost is probably never going anywhere, and now I can just enjoy it as an hour of entertainment with characters I've grown to love (except you, Jack). Just stop looking for a coherent plot and enjoy it while you can (before it crumbles a la x-files). Because damned if it isn't fun.
on another note, who else thinks those two new characters are utterly pointless?
Posted by: Matt at November 15, 2006 12:18 PM
and as I write, Rosemary seconds my opinions. haha "fembot!"
Posted by: Matt at November 15, 2006 12:19 PM
Wow, Seth, you have a knack for drawing out the commentor in me.
I gave up on "Lost" after last season. I made plans for the night of the season finale and figured I'd DL it later or something. A month went by and I still hadn't watched it. That was when I realized that I just didn't care anymore.
Anyone out there who wishes they could break their "Lost" addiction? Just quit cold turkey. Before you know it, you'll realize that you're much happier watching "America's Next Top Model" on Wednesday nights.
Posted by: Jelinas at November 15, 2006 1:34 PM
i watch lost when it comes out on dvd- so that i can watch it all at once. otherwise, i couldn't stand it.
the same with 24 and alias.

I can't help but see parallels between Lost and The Prisoner, a television show that aired from 1967 - 1968. That particular show also featured a mysterious community with a lot of unknowns. I only know about it because my father watched the whole season, on the edge of his seat, and was forever tramautized when the show was cancelled and the writers took out their vengenance by making the final episode completly irrelevant(in his opinion) to the mysteries of the plot. NONE of the mysteries were solved in a way that was satisfactory to him and he(obviously)still talks about it to this day with tears in his eyes.
I am going to be mighty peeved if Lost ends in a similar manner, grinding to a halt in an insane asylum in New Mexico that borders on Roswell and all the characters are really aliens, with the exception of Aaron, who is the second coming of Christ.
And yet, I still would watch.
Posted by: Rachel at November 15, 2006 4:07 PM
Ive definitely stopped fighting Lost on a majority of the ridiculous things that happen except theres one thing I just cant get around, the Others. Just as everyone else has said they dont even try to act like normal human beings(aliens?) supposedly just so he can have his surgery. And who gives up asking "Why are you doing this?" or even attempting to get some explanation. A great example was when the "leader" is asking Jack to save his life. For the love of God you're getting quality face time with him, hes talking to you probably at his most vunerable and you dont even try and squeek in some questions? GEEZ!
Oh yea and fuck you Lost.

Re: Lost, that Brazilian soccer dude has to go. They should just do what they did with the science teacher in the season 1 finale, blow him up, real good. Ratchet up the gore quotient a bit, lets see the chunks of Paulo or whatever the hell his name is fly. Keep the girl around, though, the show needs more jiggle anyway.
Another Lost question no one asks-where the fuck did the dog go? That dog was not on that boat at the end of last season. Where the fuck is it?

"I can't help but see parallels between Lost and The Prisoner, a television show that aired from 1967 - 1968."
I remember my partner and I making those same comments during S1, Rachel. So maybe there is something there.
Posted by: ranylt at November 15, 2006 4:20 PM
I quit on Lost halfway through S1, then gave it a try for all of S2. Now, with this endless hiatus, I think I'm giving up for good. It's just too frustrating to watch. They need to take a clue from Heroes, and actually answer some of the questions every now and then.
Oh, and how come Evangeline Lilly's pits are still sans stubble? Don't get me wrong, she's in my Top 10 and I'd hate to see her all hairy and gross, but they aren't even trying to make it realistic.
Posted by: lostblows at November 15, 2006 5:05 PM
KBalls stated one of my main concerns in recent Lost plot developments: Why hassle the spinal surgeon and his buddies for more than two months, before begging him for surgery?
I'm feeling more and more aversion with every post added.
Crappers.
Posted by: Jeff K at November 15, 2006 5:40 PM
Totally true about Lost. I can't get into that show anymore because I can't keep track of the plotlines. If I have to hear about that damn Jack/Kate/Sawyer love triangle anymore, I'm gonna scream. At this point, I could give a shit about who ends up with who. What happened to Hurley? Or Michael and Walt? Are they gone from the Lost Universe forever? Didn't Walt have some weird power or something? Where are all those great quirky characters they teased us with earlier?
But the worst thing is this mini-hiatus. It's a cheap ploy by the writers (or ABC, I'm not sure) to keep the viewers on the edge of their seats and return in a few months. What the hell for? So we can get more of the absolute nothing they revealed?
Sorry for the rant. But I've had it with this show.
Posted by: Brie at November 15, 2006 5:55 PM
Gasp! I think you forgot to mention Medium in it's two-hour premiere glory!
Posted by: Ann at November 15, 2006 6:17 PM
With regards to Thomas Gibson (Criminal Minds), he's the worst part of that show except for maybe the black guy. There's too many fucking people on that show for no justifiable reason. Maybe it's some bonehead exec's idea of having "pretty people" who are just dead weight (Shark suffers from this as well, why couldn't they just focus on James Woods).
So, keep the Patinkin, the nerd, and one of the chics, 86 the rest.
Posted by: BarbadoSlim at November 15, 2006 6:37 PM
Yeah, one big Whiskey Tango Foxtrot to lost for the introduction of new characters out of the frikkin' blue. And killing Eko? I didn't even turn in for the mini-finale--forget it.
So it's Medium for me tonight! And not just because I have a girl crush on Patricia Arquette...
Posted by: Sally at November 15, 2006 7:11 PM
ABSOLUTELY DEAD ON concerning Lost. Lost is a incoherent, sprawling, fucking mess. The characters are imbeciles who seem to experience both short and long term memory loss. Almost everyone I know who watched Lost has quit. The people who are still watching are pissed and think the show has become a pathetic soap opera.
I hope Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse never work on a show again. Those two jack offs are intolerable on their podcasts.
I hope Lost does quickly to save people the pain of enduring season after season of this lame-ass bullshit.
Posted by: Ben Barlow at November 15, 2006 7:52 PM
Lost has become total shit. I wish I never would have wasted my time and I'm embarrased that I ever told friends to watch. J.J. Abrams screwed up Alias and seems to have learned nothing. Why do they keep giving this hack shows? He comes up with what seem to be great concepts and then can't follow through.
I'm done watching Lost after this uneventful miniseason.
Fuck you J.J. Fuck you Lost. Oh and a special fuck you to the mods at the fuselage. You know who you are.
Posted by: redlocks at November 15, 2006 8:17 PM
Regarding Jericho. I had high hopes in spite of Skeet Ulrich but was quickly disappointed. I do however keep up with the program by reading the recaps at Television Without Pity. An added bonus is the recaps are done by Strega, without a doubt the best recapper on the site. She has a great way of pointing out how ridiculous the show is while recapping the action.
Posted by: annecruz at November 15, 2006 8:28 PM
THANK YOU for saying what I've felt about Lost since the middle of season two. The show has imploded under the weight of it's own nonsensical mythology. I'm giving up. If I hear that Lost turns things around, I'll catch up later (but I'll be damned if I'll buy any DVDs or pay one cent for an eppy on iTunes).

Whore!
I knew there had to be a meaningful reason why I enjoyed your articles so much... even though you've never seen Firefly (which to this day I'll never understand as it is displayed across your banner?) As a fellow Eagles fan let me give you some solid man-love. Huzzah! Now start watching Firely... NOW! Beyotch.
Sincerely

I was never that into Lost, and after the second season premiere, I just gave up. I tried to keep track incase it got more coherent, but now I have just given up.
I am glad there are people who watch, let alone like, Criminal Minds. And I agree that Gibson has pretty much washed the horrendous memory of Dharma and Greg from my mind. And I also agree: Mandy Patinkin is the MAN. He had cred with me since Inigo Montoya, and has yet to lose it. The geeky kid is entertaining, and I love Garcia and how she and the black guy flirt back and forth.
But seriously, you really do need to watch Firefly. Just sayin'.
Posted by: Vermillion at November 15, 2006 9:27 PM
"Fuck you, Lost" indeed. It saddens and sickens me to see what a heaping pile of shit this show has become (the reasons have been explained above, so I won't rehash them here).
A note to Naveen Andrews and Terry O'Quinn: Take a page out of Adewale's book and abandon this sinking ship. Your talents are far too wonderful for this fucking mess.
Ben Barlow - I want to marry you for that lovely shout-out to the Fuselage.
Posted by: Yazelle at November 15, 2006 11:33 PM
Actually, that was redlocks. I'll marry you, too!
And Lost is still fucked.
Posted by: Yazelle at November 15, 2006 11:35 PM
At last, Criminal Minds! I'm almost afraid to say that I'm glad you like it, because of the whole lemmings situation... Oh, what the hell: I'M SOOO HAPPY YOU LIKE CRIMINAL MINDS!!!!!!!
I'm totally in love with Reid, Garcia is the funniest character I've seen in ages and best thing ever, Elle left! I almost danced on my mom's kitchen table when "The Boogeyman" was over.
But now seriously, why did you have to bring up "Lost"? Is it an inside contest of which one of you guys gets most posts in the comments section? Cause in about 2 days, you'd have won by far... :))
Posted by: irina at November 16, 2006 1:37 AM
You are right that Marino can do no wrong. I am not sure why a Philly fan thinks so, but whatever. As long as you acknowledge it.
The only thing I have to watch on Wednsdays is South Park. It might be an aquired taste. But more often than not, it is clever and hillarious. It seems like they were tripping acid when they come up with some of the plot lines. But even under the influence of drugs, they come up with some really funny and thought-provoking episodes. I would say at least give it a try.
Author's Note: Man, I love "South Park," and I don't know how it snuck past me. I blame "Lost."
Posted by: Dave at November 16, 2006 1:40 AM
I have one tiny requirement of Lost in the next season and that is for the whole Libby/Hurley thing to be addressed. They made it seem like it was this whole big deal that she was in the hospital with him and i just won't let it go.
Posted by: meli at November 16, 2006 2:19 AM
although dave mentioned it already, i gotta second the point with greater emphasis: if you're not watching South Park, you are missing some of the best writing ever on TV. the last two seasons (and now this one) have been transcendent in terms of cultural criticism wrapped w/in side-splitting hilarity. time and again, this sophomoric cartoon captures the essence of today's political and social controversies MUCH better than any news show or pundit ever could.
Posted by: mhester at November 16, 2006 12:14 PM
Blasphemy!
You must have faith that the benevolent island gods will one day reveal their grand design to you, the lowly viewer. Do not question them. They move in mysterious ways, you know.

For some one worn out with cop court and DOCTOR dramas they all seem like the same boring crap.. nothing original.. LOST WAS FUCKING MAGICAL.. I`LL BE THERE febuary with much lower expectations, sawyer should be gone then..SOUTH PARK is at the top of the mountain the flag is planted..and ray your mom and sister are alot of fun here at retard class ,
Posted by: pasadenamike at November 16, 2006 2:52 PM
I agree with Matt, who said he hated Jack. THANK YOU!!!! He is so awful. I was hoping he'd be the one to die this mini-season, instead of Eko. Maybe someone will kill him in Febuary and Ben will magically be healed...by the island...or something...and no one will need a doctor and we can forget that Jack ever existed.
Ps- Is Claire his half-sister? They kinda forgot that they brought that up in S2.
Posted by: Kara at November 16, 2006 3:30 PM
I still love Lost, but I totally miss some of the other characters. Sun? Jin? Haven't seen them since they went overboard in a hail of bullets. Hurley? One of my favorites! I completely agree with a previous poster, I just wish Kate would die. She really gets on my nerves. Bad.
But I am very happy for the return of Medium. But I also watch CM, so if all three end up on at once I am totally screwed (and my DVR will be working some serious overtime!).
Posted by: Jen at November 17, 2006 6:45 PM
Oh, Lost. Why oh why did you (seemingly purposefully) jump the shark? You seem to be trying to suck. This is exactly what happened to the X-Files... it began to take itself far too seriously and got totally caught up in its own hype. Not to mention the best characters disappearing parallel. It just took a few more seasons to do it.
I think it's good that we've agreed to take this break. I think (I hope) it will be good for us. Last year was a bad time for us, Lost. You would be there for a week or two, and then you would just disappear for a few weeks. You tried to satiate me with reruns, but it just isn't the same. I think it will be better for us this way. Perhaps, when we meet again, you'll realize what a catch I am and stop taking me for granted.
I'll give you only one last chance when you return to me. Oh, who am I kidding? THis is like some unrequited love affair... the worse you treat me, the more I want you. But even so, eventually, one gets tired of being treated that way, and gets over the object of one's obsession... I'm beginning to be tired, dear Lost. The next step is the getting over you part. It won't be easy, and I'll always love how you were in the beginning. But I deserve better. I deserve to not be taken for granted. I deserve a nice present once in a while, like an answer to a question... It's like you don't even listen to me. Well, enough. We'll take this break, and we'll see other shows. And when you come crawling back to me in February, if i don't sense a change in your attitude towards me, I'm going to have to give up and let you go. I simply cannot go on this way.

You know what really gets me about Lost? I'm not even much of a TV watcher. That shit has to be GOOD for me to even be interested. But a friend got me season one on DVD and I was abso-fucking-lutely MESMERIZED. I have never ever fallen in love with a TV show so fast or so hard.
I became a Lost dork, talking about it with friends who were watching it, STRANGERS who were watching it, ANYONE.
I went from that to this: God, I hate this. Fuck it. Shit. Assholes.
Way too many unanswered questions and when they keep piling on more, I just don't care about the new ones. I'm giving Lost one more chance in February. If things don't get a LOT better and fast, that's it. I'm not wasting any more time on it. I've got seasons one and two on DVD. That'll be the end of it.

Thomas Gibson may have washed off Dharma and Greg, but he's still got one problem: the fact that he's a horrendous actor. I don't believe a word he says. Ever. He's flat, bland, and without any sort of emotion. I realize that might have something to do with his character, but I somehow doubt that he was written as "agent without personality".
