You Thought You Disliked Michael Buble. Well, Think Again Mr. Too Quick to Judge

No, this is not from last night’s Michael Buble special on ABC, which I didn’t see but can only assume it was some sad variety of anti-entertainment. It did feature Justin Bieber, after all. It’s a clip from a concert in which he performed, and in which a doting mother brow-beat Buble into allowing his son to get up on stage and sing.

The results are … well, I’ll let you see for yourself, but Buble has just jumped onto the list of people who are much cooler than their music, a list which so far only includes Buble and Josh Groban.

That made my day. Thanks!

That almost makes up for Canada and The Bieber. Almost.

I had never heard of or even knew Michael Buble existed until I happened to catch the commercial for his ABC special over the weekend. But, after watching this, I'm a fan, in particlar, because my man Sam is rocking a killer dragon t-shirt.

I've always somewhat envied my geek brothers and sisters who could rock that kind of stuff. I have plenty of geekwear, but it tends to be a lot more subtle.

Posted by: Forbiddendonut at December 7, 2011 12:15 PM

Holy shitballs that was awesome!

Posted by: Gemma at December 7, 2011 12:20 PM

Didn't Michael Buble cheat on Emily Blunt, the hoob that stole AND MARRIED my pretend boyfriend, John Krasinski? I LIKE THIS BUBLE JUST FINE.

Posted by: Pinky McLadybits at December 7, 2011 12:21 PM

Aw, that's sweet. There's a surprisingly good karaoke backing track of Summer Wind which is apparently based on the Michael Buble version. It cues really well and has the singer start the song, which is rare, so yay for him on that count too.

Posted by: Lucas at December 7, 2011 12:21 PM

This is what makes the internet awesome.

Posted by: DamnYankees at December 7, 2011 12:23 PM

Ok, his excitement was great. And he said "holy shitballs" which I love.
AND his Ham and Bubbly SNL sketch is GOLDEN.
But-
His version of "Santa Baby" is weird and uncomfortable.

Thank you so much for putting into words an emotion I had not quite yet nailed down.

I have always loved Buble. His Christmas album kicks all the ass, y'all. So much love.

Posted by: KatSings at December 7, 2011 12:37 PM

I'd decided that I like Michael Buble despite his music when a friend sent me a link to this parody of one of his videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjaZNYSt7o0

And then I found a video response from him, where his reaction is basically to compliment the people who did it, thank them for using his video so he could be part of something so awesome, and tells them what his favorite parts in the video are.

Thank god, an artist who has a sense of humor AND can appreciate the effort that goes into a good parody (as well as distinguish between a good-natured parody and a bad-natured one).

Posted by: Nat Kittyface at December 7, 2011 12:38 PM

That was awesome. I never thought much about him one way or the other, but now I really admire him. Thanks for sharing this. Yeah, he's now on the list with Groban who's cool factor shot up a million and one points when he appeared on I'm fucking Ben Affleck.

Posted by: lillie at December 7, 2011 12:43 PM

This. All of this, I love.
I love both Buble and Groban so so so much. They are just so sassy and classy!
What's that, "too cool" friends of mine? You now understand why I went to see them both in concert this summer? Well too bad you made fun of me for it, for you missed out on some real glorious times!

As a dad, this made my day. I don't often allow the warmth of humanity to defrost the block of dry ice that is my heart, so thank you.

Did you take Carlson's site admin privileges away from him or something? Why can't he post his own damn heartwarming videos? No offense to the other staff, but I demand more Carlson!

I became a fan of Josh Groban after the Jimmy Kimmel skit where he sets Kanye West tweets to music. "Man... whatever happened to my antique fishtank?", indeed.

Posted by: piedlourde at December 7, 2011 1:47 PM

How gracious and modest of him. So many singers would be competitive about that. Call me cheesy, but I think both Bs have beautiful voices.

Posted by: samantha t at December 7, 2011 1:51 PM

And, sorry - Groban's version of O Holy Night frigging dominates.

Posted by: samantha t at December 7, 2011 2:06 PM

Okay, that was nice. I still hate his music but I figured he was a bit of a twat and I'm always happy to be proven wrong in that department.

As for Josh Groban - I developed a bit of a crush on him after he hosted Never Mind the Buzzcocks (you can watch it here. He was the best guest host in a long time on this brilliant show.

Now THAT is how you treat your fans.

Posted by: Bert at December 7, 2011 2:24 PM

Buble singing other people's music (standards, holiday music) is good. Buble singing his own music is terrible.

Groban's probably in the same category, but I don't think I've actually heard him sing original music.

They both seem like really nice people, though.

Yup, Buble did just like he's been cheating on Luisana all along.

Posted by: Ryan at December 7, 2011 3:13 PM

Buble's original songs are shit, which is something even the most ignorant of his fans will admit. But he can belt the fuck out of an old standard, as Three-nineteen said.
Now, being from a family of people with questionable taste, I have been dragged to a Michael Buble concert. Since then, I willingly attended one as well. Guy has a voice that could charm the panties off of an angry she-lion. That's not metaphorical. That happened at the first concert.

Posted by: A-schaef at December 7, 2011 5:05 PM

His reaction was so great!

Posted by: Candee at December 7, 2011 5:05 PM

(Insert whichever country this was shot in here)'s Got talent!

Posted by: , at December 7, 2011 5:09 PM

Sam sings better.

Posted by: Michin70 at December 7, 2011 5:25 PM

Michael Buble co-owns a junior hockey team. He is cool. That is all.

Posted by: lil_a at December 7, 2011 5:43 PM

Never EVER did I think something could make me peep around the corner of my loathing for the Boobmeister and enjoy the view. Holy shitballs indeed.

Posted by: Scratch McGee at December 7, 2011 5:58 PM

I've just been watching the part where Buble reacts to Sam's singing over and over. His face is priceless.
I love this!

Posted by: julia at December 7, 2011 6:54 PM

I'm a sucker for a good voice, so I am unashamedly a Buble fan. Add a sense of humor to it and it's a done deal.

Posted by: Vee at December 7, 2011 7:22 PM

Fuck, man, I hate it when my heart gets defrosted. Now I have to turn up the freezer again.

Posted by: Uriah Creep at December 7, 2011 9:49 PM

I've been a fan of his ever since his interview on Parkinson, the guys got more charisma in his pinky then most performers have in there entire body.

Posted by: Ben at December 7, 2011 10:41 PM

Three-ninteen:

Now a days Groban mostly sings his own stuff, it just sounds classical and is in other languages. That's how much of a boss he is. Also Groban is maybe one of the more hilarious people out there. He has such a sense of humor about himself.

I'm a little proud of myself. I commented about this video the other day. I feel like I'm contributing content (though I'm sure I'm not)

Posted by: e-money at December 7, 2011 10:49 PM

I really like Buble the man. I still really don't like Buble the singer. He's got a lazy voice that's always half a note behind the music and sounds like he's not really trying and not in a good way.

But the guy. The guy is quite funny. And it almost makes sense why he sings like that. He's like the slacker at the drivethrough who takes peoples orders whilst mooning his coworkers and gets everybodies meals wrong. He doesn't really give a shit about his job, but he loves the opportunity it gives him to fuck around all the time.

Posted by: DarthBrookes at December 7, 2011 11:08 PM

Bwahaha, I love how much he swears, at his own concert, full of his fans.
That was really cute.

Posted by: BiblioGeek at December 7, 2011 11:43 PM

That was VERY cute. I have always liked the Buble's music

*hides behind CD tower which may or may not include Boyz II Men (twice)*

Also, I hate to, but I have to get this out: did anyone notice his twitchy nose rubbing? Draw your own conclusions...

Posted by: holygoobs at December 8, 2011 12:39 AM

Awww Mr Buble. You melted my cold heart on a Thursday afternoon. For that I salute you.

Posted by: SteveInSpain at December 8, 2011 10:36 AM

Holy Hell! You can hear that that kid has a voice that could blast Buble and his reedy organ of the stage if he put a bit more effort into it.

Thanks for your writing. I would also like to say that the health insurance brokerage also works well with the benefit of the actual coordinators of any group insurance cover. The health insurance broker is given a long list of benefits needed by a person or a group coordinator. Exactly what a broker can is hunt for individuals or maybe coordinators which often best fit those requirements. Then he shows his recommendations and if the two of you agree, the particular broker formulates legal contract between the two parties.
