HOW IS THIS MUSIC? Why is it so catchy? Why do I hop around like a bunny whenever it comes on? Why is Santa Claus howling? Are the Dering Ding Ding Da Ding Dings trigger words for hypnosis? Is Ylvis CONTROLLING OUR MIND?

What the f*ck is going on, people?

From Norway: This is played several times at every party with everybody singing along since it came out.

  • Meli_V

Awesome. This song cracks me up and makes me dance and I made it my ringtone. I've watched their other videos on YouTube; they have some pretty amazing stuff.

  • Christian

I literally watched every single ylvis video on youtube after initially watching the Fox video

  • Rooks

Basically, it's the Macarena and Gangnam Style over again, but this time we understand what is being sung. (And we still don't care that it doesn't make a lick of good sense.)

    What? Don't judge.

[fierce internal debate regarding if the header pic should be my new facebook cover photo or not]

I just wasted 40 minutes watching other Ylvis videos on youtube. I hate you for doing this to me. I'm going to spend the rest of the day wondering exactly why Stonehenge is the best henge in the world.

  • BWeaves

And then she plays with my balls.

  • ZbornakSyndrome

I feel like the furry scene from The Shining finally has context for me. Thanks Ylvis!

  • That sound you heard (besides the fox sound) is hundreds of bros coming to the absolutely shocked realization that there are OTHER bros who had the same genius Halloween idea as them.

  • JenVegas

Also? ?uestlove for the win AGAIN!

  • M H

I thought ?uestlove was the best part of that video.

  • JenVegas

ILL-Vis? I've been pronouncing it Yell-Vis all this time. Boy do *I* feel dumb.

  • AudioSuede

Have you checked out their other videos? They're basically the Nordic Lonely Island, and they're amazing.

    EDIT: Relevant - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

  • Berry

That was amazing, and I've definitely been to that cabin. I had no idea Norwegian Cabin Experiences were so like ours, minus the sauna and the lake.

I can't wait to show that to my husband. He loves everything Norwegian, and that song perfectly describes the cabin his father, uncles and grandfather share.

  • BWeaves

So, by "live" they mean prerecorded and lip-synched in front of a live audience, for part of it.

Also, now that song is stuck in my head, and that's not a bad thing.

  • Robert

Considering the vocals sound completely different from the recording and are off pitch all over the place, I'm pretty sure it was live. Everything was recorded live and edited together.

  • Cat

They usually sing live on their own show - like here, where they're weirding out Norway's prime minister-elect by singing at her at very close quarters:

  • BWeaves

I'm sorry, but "recorded live" is an oxymoron.

It's either performed live, or it's recorded.

    Live should be live.

Recorded in front of a live audience is still recorded.

  • NynjaSquirrel

As someone with a background in live audio broadcast, I'd say you were 100% correct, recorded live in bits, then assembled.

  • kinoumenthe

Yes, otherwise I don't see how they would manage the costume changes.

    Still great though.

  • Samantha Klein

    What is going on? Awesomeness.

  • kirbyjay

Is that Seabisquit from Craig Ferguson's show in the backround?

  • Ludo

    no it's secretariat lol.

  • Sara_Tonin00

    I'm loving these guys.

My brother's an OU alum - he sent me this video of the Famous Marching 110 covering the song:

(those kids move way better than I ever did in my marching band days)

  • PDamian

Funny thing is, that de-ding-a-ding-ding lyric is a bit what foxes sound like. Check this out (fast forward to 1:10 for "gekkering"):

  • ZbornakSyndrome

The bark is fine, it's the mating scream that gets me. We live in a fox-populated area and it sounds like a woman is being murdered whenever they're in heat. It's pretty unnerving if you have your windows open at night.

  • Cas Bloom

My mother called me every night for a couple weeks because she was sure someone was being murdered in her backyard. I had to come over and show her youtube videos of fox calls and even then she wasn't entirely convinced.

  • ZbornakSyndrome

I'm with your mom. That sound is horrifying.

  • BigBlueKY

MAJESTIC. Also, this is my 10 month old nephews favorite song -- obviously.

  • Zirza

Also my class of 12 year olds, who know the lyrics by heart and sing along to it. Loudly.
