Watch Meryl Streep's Cut Original Song From 'Into the Woods'

The perfectly fine Into the Woods comes out on DVD and Blu-ray next month, which means the bonus feature teasers have begun. First up is this original song written by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine for Meryl Streep, titled “She’ll Be Back.” I assume this was written in order to get an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Song category, and as you would expect from a Sondheim-Lapine-Streep collaboration, it’s totally enjoyable. But for a movie that already cut out a whole bunch of necessary (or at least meaningful) material, adding in something new seems beyond pointless. So good for them for choosing the good of the movie over an Oscar nomination (if that is, in fact, the reasoning here), and since we still get to see it here, everybody wins!
