Trick 'r Treat Director Mike Dougherty's Short Film Will Be The Highlight Of Your Halloween

What’s more adorable than children? Children digging up bodies and playing with the gooey bits within.

No, really. Below is a short film from Mike Dougherty, director of the sublime and vastly underrated (and underwatched) 2007 film Trick ‘R Treat, a fantastic little anthology of horror that, for reasons that will eternally baffle me, was never released in theaters (despite being quite literally one of the best horror movies of the last decade). Dougherty hasn’t done much since then other than some screenplay work, so it’s nice to see him behind the camera, even if it’s only for a couple of minutes.

The short, cleverly titled Making Friends, was made for the cable channel FEARnet, and it’s adorable and horrifying and charming and gory and sweet, and it’s a testament to Dougherty’s abilities that he so seamlessly incorporates all of those traits into two short minutes (with no dialogue, to boot). Watch it. It’ll be the best part of your day. Trust me.

Dougherty also keeps making little "Sam" (the Trick 'r Treat mascot/demon thing) shorts for various holidays. The one for "Back to School" was great. Sam was waiting for the school bus with a large bag obviously stuffed with a body. The other kids are understandably keeping their distance.

Our tradition for Halloween is the viewing of "Sleepy Hollow" and "Trick 'r Treat". I love both movies, but I always save them for the end and watch it on the actual day. Makes it even better. Both movies are vastly underrated in my opinion. "Sleepy Hollow" is easily my favorite Burton movie.

TylerDFC, you just made my day. Another person who truly appreciates the awesomeness that is Sleepy Hollow? Be still my heart!

I saw Trick 'r Treat for the first time last year. Didn't quite know what to make of it, but rather enjoyed it over all. Especially the Red Riding Hood/werewolf orgy storyline. Creative stuff.

I believe Trick r' Treat is on Netflix streaming, and it's definitely worth a look for anybody who's missed it up to now. Love that movie, so much better than Creepshow.

Yeah, I said it.

(I should really get back to work, but I don't wanna.)

The Trick 'r Treat blu ray is about $7 on Amazon right now. Most stores it is on sale for $10 or so. Well worth a pick up. It's a solid Blu Ray release with some good featurettes and commentary.

watched T'r'T a coupla months ago on the Instant View after this site touted it. I agree that it was inventive and interesting. Better than the middling-to-awful shit that comes out around this time of year.

However, I would like to petition the werewolf vignette to be expanded into a feature film. that was so hot.

LOVE IT!!!

OKay, Halloween is my most favorite time of year and that is totally awesome. Thank you so much!

Love Sleepy Hollow and Trick'r Treat, and anything that is remotely Halloweeny.

I caught Trick R Treat on pay-per view, after 5 minutes I thought wow, why wasn't this released in theaters?

It's cool that at least it got out and those that know, know.

Well, I always DID want to know what went on in Hillshire Farms. It's nice to see some industrial films aren't quite as dry.

I'm gonna grill me up some brats.

I love Creepshow too much to say TRT is superior, but it was definitely A HUGE step in the right direction for modern horror. (bought it on DVD and then on bluray for $7 at bestbuy).

The worst part is that Warner Brothers shelved the movie for a long time, eventually releasing it straight to DVD in December. That pissed me off because I knew about the movie and it's troubles with WB (especially since it featured multiple child deaths) long before it was released. That Halloween before it's release there was nothing but shit in the theaters for horror movies and meanwhile this movie, tailor made for Halloween, was just sitting there.

And then to top it off, when they finally do put it out on DVD, they put Sam without his mask right on the front cover! Completely blowing the reveal! WB is chock full of dumbasses.
