After a decade or so apart, which saw Ben Folds successfully fly solo, and Darren Jesse make one hell of an album with his band, Hotel Lights, and Robert Sledge do ... other things ... Ben Folds Five has reunited. The video for their first single, "Do It Anyway," is out, and appropriately enough, it's with the Fraggles. (Ten years ago, after I introduced my wife to Ben Folds Five, she often suggested that they look like adorable Fraggles.)

The music video also features appearances from Rob Corddry, Chris Hardwick, Anna Kendrick (Maine!), and the song contains BFF's usual blend of discordant harmonies and awesomeness.

  • no one found those lyrics just a bit banal and paternalistic? they could have took a page from the fraggles lyric book and either lightened it or added some absurdity or metaphors, or i don't know, something?

I'm excited for this album (plus, I only heard about it a couple of days ago). In retrospect, Rockin' the Suburbs is a pretty great album (minus the title track), but his subsequent albums (excepting the EPs) have been disappointing. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but cranking that through my headphones has gone and made me a believer...dammit.

Oh, anybody wanna bet he marries Anna Kendrick next?

  • BobbFrapples

So happy right now. *wipes grit from eyes*

So glad I didn't close the window after the song ended

New Ben Folds Five, new Mumford and Sons. These are good days to be an aging pseudo-hipster.

  • Sara_Tonin00

I'm thinking you mean "atonal" or "dissonant" harmonies, rather than "discordant."

Bless the English language, and its very, very specific words.

  • BierceAmbrose

You are my hero right now. Also, "discordant lyrics" would kinda work.

I do wonder if this happy news is a sign of the un-pocalypse. Next, Barenaked Ladies reunites & they return to their roots as an alt-nerdcore party band with actual talent, then Whedon announces more Firefly under his deal with not-Umbrella Corporation.

    A lad can dream.

In many ways, the Bare Naked never left us, and iheard within the coming weeks, BNL will be releasing a new single, titled "Boomerang"

  • BierceAmbrose

They never stopped recording, and, indeed hosted a series of musical cruises after losing their label, and continuing after the forced departure of the one guy. (Seriously, dude, caught one time too many doing cocaine in Syracuse New York?!? How, um "indy" of you.)

Yet, I feel their defining sound and vibe were with the whole lineup, just before their brief foray into studio-produced videos.

    Yes, I am a purist.

  • idiosynchronic

    *long drag*

So was it good for you? I know I'll be feeling my glutes tomorrow.

  • Luke

    I want Anna's shirt...now...
