'NBC Nightly News' Might Have The Best Straight Man This Side Of Ben Wyatt

So Brian Williams is legitimately funny, huh? Between BriTunes, his work on 30 Rock, and his Fallon appearances, Williams had already nailed down the Funniest News Anchor title. (Better luck next time, Edward R Murrow).

But now he’s added the Embarrassing Dad character, and I have to admit, he does it pretty well. Watch as he reports on his daughter Allison Williams being cast in NBC’s Peter Pan:

He just essentially pulled out the photo album for the entire American public as though we were picking up Allison for our first date. But damn if he didn’t look smooth doing it.

I am crying right now, that was so damn sweet.

  • Peep_Jerky

I bet that still went over most of the audiences' heads.

Brian Williams was always one of the funniest guests when he would go on Conan, when Conan was still in New York. He's the perfect straight man to Conan's zaniness because he's so self aware and he plays it perfectly.

Omg hes so proud of her! I hope he starts telling dad jokes next.

  • The Replicant Brooke

This is the sweetest goddamned thing. UNGH. I MISS YOU DAD. *cries into lunch*

  • Mrs. Julien

He really is a world class straight man. He's a pretty fine straight man, too.

How did I not know Alison Williams was his daughter until now?

  • guyminuslife

All Williamses are related: Brian Williams, Allison Williams, John Williams, Pharrell, Montel, Robin and Robbie, Serena and Venus, both Michelles, all three Hanks, and of course Tennessee.

  • Well done on missing the over-exaggerated "The Girls cast is all just nepotism" nonsense.

  • BWeaves

I don't want to play poker with that guy. Talk about a straight face.

"The news is now funnier than any CBS's sitcoms." Setting that bar a little low, aren't we?
I always loved BW on the Daily Show and Conan, but his appearances on 30 Rock were the best. Kenneth having to clean up his dressing room and not ask questions was brilliant.

    Brian Williams is legitimately funny.

I thank godtopus every day that my father doesn't have an audience larger than 5.

You're forgetting the many many times he and Jon Stewart camped it up together, but goddammit Brilliams, I love you.
