Jon Stewart Says Goodbye to "The Daily Show" For the Summer

By Dustin Rowles | Videos | June 7, 2013 | Comments ()

Last night was Jon Stewart's last on The Daily Show for the next three months, a strange thought considering that Stewart has only been out of the anchor chair twice since he began (both times for the birth of children). John Oliver will be taking over in the meantime, and I'm certain he'll do a fabulous job.

Here's Stewart, meanwhile, talking about the movie he's leaving "The Daily Show" to direct, and how it relates to the show.

Dear Comedy Network Canada via Bell Media,

You suck. Hard. Like a Dyson in heat. I get it. Really I do. You have a deal of exclusivity to showcase many American TV programs. Bad enough when I want to watch them on television, I have to tune into you because I have no other option. But online is a different story. I have all sort of options before me. Well....I WOULD have except for the fact every time I go to them they forbid me to view their content and send me your way.

And that's really heart of the problem. Your website has all the organization of a fire drill at Bellevue which is being overseen by a diabetic blues musician. Finding shows and a specific episode can be hard, downloading them is difficult at best mainly due to your bandwidth still mired in 1998 and finding at watching clips are damn near impossible, quite often because on your site they don't exist. I'm not saying it's totally impossible to navigate, but I am saying that most of the time it's just not worth the five extra steps just to watch a two minute clip. When someone links a clip for me to watch, I want to be able to watch it then and there. You're like a hyperactive traffic cop with the mother of all Napoleonic complexes. You leave a message telling me that if I want to watch this materiel I need to drop whatever it is I'm doing and chug over to your site, find a chunk of footage that might have the bit of material I want to see and sift through it for 20 minutes. No thank you.

Either let me watch what I want and where I want or hire a webmaster worth a damn. Blow their minds- pay them more and give them a monthly allowance to Tim Hortons. You'll look better for it and I won't have the constant urge to give you the finger when I drive by your offices.

Can you view episodes and clips directly via That's a decent site, although it's streaming-only.

  • bleujayone

Nope. All I get is a "Sorry.....yadda yadda region or country...blah blah....go to....BS" I imagine they can tell where I am and have the material blocked. Hence, my teeth-gnashing rant.

  • foolsage

Damn, sorry to hear that. You can try using a proxy server, so they think you're in the States.

You may not like or agree with Stewart, but the man backs up what he says 100% and will take you on if he feels you've done wrong.
