John Cusack Doesn't Believe in Rewarding Mia Wasikowska's Homicidal Behavior: Cronenberg's 'Map to the Stars' Clip

David Cronenberg’s satire about a Hollywood family’s quest for fame competed for the Palme d’Or at Cannes this year, and won Julianne Moore the Best Actress prize. Though the director was wary about making the film (which was in development for six years and once abandoned), Cronenberg relates the following tale: “…I actually had the head of a studio come over to me in Cannes, hug me and say, ‘Your movie scared the shit out of me. I had nightmares about it all night. And then the next day I went to a party at the Hotel du Cap, and all I could see was scenes from your movie.’ So I thought that was a positive reaction.”

Though we don’t know exactly what is happening between Cusack’s Dr. Stafford Weiss and Wasikowska’s Agatha (father and daughter), there is an underlying menace to the scene:

With a screenplay by Bruce Wagner (State of the Union, Wild Palms, I’m Losing You), and also starring Robert Pattinson, Sarah Gadon, Carrie Fisher and Olivia Williams, Map to the Stars is going on my must-see list. Opens in theaters across the pond this September, U.S. Release date TBA.
