There's been an enormous amount of conversation surrounding Tatiana Maslany in recent weeks, and especially following the fantastic season finale of "Orphan Black." Those that have watched the series can't get over how amazing Tatiana Maslany's performance is in not one, but five or six roles (I forget how many were up to, now). On Twitter this morning, Damon Lindelof echoed what many of us are feeling.

It's true! If you haven't seen it, you really do need to. The entire first season comes out on DVD in July, so pick it up for some great summer watching.

Most of us known Tatiana Maslany only from "Orphan Black," but the Canadian actress has actually been around for a decade, mostly in Canadian television and in bit parts in horror films, like Diary of the Dead, Stir of Echoes and The Messengers. For fun, though, let's take a look at a clip from the sequel to the greatly unerappreciated Ginger Snaps, Ginger Snaps: Unleashed, featuring a very young, very blonde Maslany.

That's one great B-level movie performance. Also, she's so tiny.

    1) The writer of the original Ginger Snaps is a staff writer on Orphan Black.
    2) Tatiana was in a really good movie a couple years ago called, "Grown Up Movie Star". It's worth finding, for her performance alone. The more recent one, "Picture Day" is a bore.

Picture Day was dull. She was ok in it. She looked great, however.

  • Nadine

    Wait, that's Ghost??

  • Dave Dorris

I would disagree with Mr Lindeloff slightly: I think she's giving about 3 of the best performances on television. I still, every episode, forget that's the same chick.

Also, Felix is the bomb, yo!

Please don't ever bring that ass-hat Demon into the equation. He is a shitty writer who's only substance is that of the surface variety, with absolutely no depth or reason to the things he writes.

Great, now I feel guilty for thinking TM has the best ass on television.

I actually hit IMDB upon watching the first episode of Orphan Black. I was shocked to realize it was the same actor. So I ended up watching the entire Ginger Snaps trilogy again. I also saw Tatiana in a movie last week called "Picture Day". She was actually heavier, and looked much more pretty with more roundness to her face. I would still quite happily take the skinnier current version however. Think how much fun she would be. A few wigs, and she could be a different woman each night!

There are few characters in the history of cinema that I hate more than Ghost. You, sir, have just taken my new found love and tarnished it a little.

I watched the first 6 episodes last night and the only thing that stopped me from finishing the season in one sitting was having to be at work today. DAMN YOU, NEED FOR SLEEP!!!! I can't wrap my head around how brilliant her performance is. Performances are? But the best thing about the show is that it stands up to her remarkable skills. It isn't fantastic JUST because of her. Wow. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Can't wait to get home and finish up...

  • PaddyDog

Completely off-topic but are we completely ignoring the fact that Vulture referred to you today as "poor, brilliant Dustin Rowles"???

It was a sweet thing to say, even if they were metaphorically patting me on the head while saying it.

I finally watched some of Orphan Black over the weekend onDemand (thanks to this site praising it so often) and I loved it. I'm only 2 episodes in so I have a lot of catching up to do. Anyhow, point is, she is adorable and very charismatic on screen.

  • dizzylucy

I just counted - in the first season alone, she played 7 different characters, PLUS two of those characters impersonating other characters on several occasions. It's incredible. I hope word spreads and a lot of people check out the show between seasons.

There is NOTHING adorable about Ghost. She is one of the most irritating companions to ever show up in a horror movie and that's saying a lot. It's usually so hard to pinpoint what, exactly, went wrong in a sequel to a great horror since everything goes wrong. Not here. The answer is Ghost, played by Tatiana Maslany.

OK! OK! I give UP! You WIN! I'll watch it. I'll watch it.

  • toblerone

Thanks Damon. Now my love for this show and Tatiana is totally validated.

Well now we know what made little baby Helena go several stops past Barking. Those Ukrainian orphanages are tougher than I thought.

She's from Upminster?! I knew it! (Haha, tube allergy meds are really good this year)
