George Takei's TEDx Talk Includes No Puns or Animal Pictures, But Is Still a Great Use of the Internet

While I’m pretty sure a ‘like’ of George Takei’s Facebook page is now mandatory if you want access to the internet, there’s still a chance you may have missed this. So, to please the Takeigency, here is a TEDx talk Takei gave in Kyoto. He opens with “I am a veteran of the Starship Enterprise,” but moves on quickly to talk about a subject which in recent years he’s made clear is very important to him: the Japanese American internment of WWII. Give it a watch. It’s the least we can do to show gratitude for the dozens of pun-based animal pictures he gives us every day.

  • Here in Britain our braindead pundits are always talking about our 'beloved national treasures', but I'll tell you what, America, I'd gladly trade you Stephen 'I'm posh and I've read at least three books' Fry for someone like George Takei.

  • Fabius_Maximus

I'd take Stephen Fry off your hands. We need more dry wit and righteous anger. Also, our national treasures are all dead.

    Betty White did not die.

  • Sassy Pikachu

My mind is convinced Betty White will never die. But I would love me some Stephen Fry as well, QI is one of my favorite shows and all the humor between him and the guests are just fantastic.

  • Fabius_Maximus

    She's not German, though.

  • webelos8

I don't know where to go with that. Allrighty then?

  • Fabius_Maximus

    Try to connect the dots?

  • webelos8

I was typing on my phone. Anyway- I was going to apologize that I didn't know you were German but didn't want it to sound like I was apologizing for Betty White not being German, and also for your lack of national treasures but ended up sounding like an oaf, which I did anyway.

  • Fabius_Maximus

No apology necessary. I've been around here for so long now that I sometimes forget that the majority of the people here don't know where I'm from. I don't want to mention it everytime I post something relating to that, because that's when I'd feel like an oaf.

  • webelos8

Shall we wallow in our oafishness?

  • Fabius_Maximus

    Like pigs.

    Nor has Carol Burnett.

  • webelos8

I have loved her since I was a kid. Her show was always one of my favorites!

I'm still waiting for Allegiance to hit Broadway. A friend of mine from college was in the original West Coast production (in the meantime she's doing If/Then with Idina Menzel).
