Poor Ed Helms, for he is going to be blamed for the atrociousness of his Andy Bernard character on "The Office," for a very long time. John Krasinski -- through better writing and lip syncing -- has managed to rehabilitate the Jim Halpert image, but Andy Bernard continues to be awful at everything. As a result, the sight of Ed Helms gives me the squeamies.

Fortunately, however, he does not Britta this clip from the forthcoming season of Netflix's "Arrested Development," introduced by Portia de Rossi on last night's "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon."

What was going through my head during the actual clip:

5% OMG!! Arrested Development is back!!!
95% What the hell have Portia done to Lindsey's face. She did not have the right to do that.

Helms played this character in season 2. No? The episode that Lindsay takes a shower in the house he's trying to sell.

Yes, that was him. He plays a normal person, not an irritating one. She thought he was hitting on her because she and Tobias had just decided to try having an open marriage, but he was just talking about an open house. I just started re-watching the show a few weeks ago, then I heard the series is restarting, so imagine my joy.

Helms is a great comedic actor. I blame the writers for Andy's grating awfulness. His character was always a weak link even when the show still had legs.

Tempted but I'm not going to watch - I don't want to watch bits of all of the episodes before they air, so that it's all new to me. I saw the one clip of Buster assisting Lucille with her smoking and almost died laughing, but that's going to have to hold me over until the 26th.

But as for Ed Helms, is it really fair to blame Andy's devolution into a crazy show-ruiner on him? I'd say it's all writing - character decisions and nonsensical storylines, rather than performance that's been the biggest problem. Not that I don't disagree - Andy Bernard is a cancer to the show now, but I don't hold it against Helms.
