Where The Hell is Our Reality Show About the Muppets?

On last week’s episode of what’s been a solid all-star season of “Top Chef,” the Muppets stopped by for the quickfire challenge. Having recently seen Being Elmo, I have a new-found respect for the little red bastard, and who doesn’t love some Cookie Monster (Telly was also on there to help judge the cookie-making competition). It was one of the more entertaining quickfires the show has done, and appears that the furry ones were just as entertaining behind-the-scenes as in front of the camera:

No doubt that’s the most fun lighting test you’ve ever shot.

Right after stumbling upon this video (courtesy of reality blurred), I saw the teaser for an upcoming HBO film, Cinema Verite, which is about what’s generally considered the first reality show, PBS’ “An American Family.” The film stars James Gandolfini, Tim Robbins and Diane Lane, among others, and looks solid:

The confluence of seeing these two clips back-to-back reminded me of a rumor from a few years back, which involved a potetial “reality” show focusing on the Muppets. As I recall, they were going to be getting ready to do a new primetime show, and the series would follow their “American Idol”-type search for a new Muppet cast member. I have every hope that Jason Segal’s movie reboot of the franchise will be great, but if it doesn’t lead to me getting my Muppet reality show, god damn it, head-shaped felt moldings will fly!

Dustin recently posted some great Muppet musical clips, and while he rightfully put Mahna Mahna at the one-spot, he left off another one of my favorites (which, perhaps not so coincidentally, also features Mahna Mahna), so I’ll leave you with some Sax and Violence:
