Chelsea Peretti's Opening Monologue at the Crunchies Was Rambling, Awkward, Painful and Hilarious

Remember last year, when TJ Miller hosted the Crunchies and basically offended everyone in the room, which was made up of mostly Silicon Valley execs and employees? Well, TJ Miller wasn’t invited back this year. Instead, Chelsea Peretti hosted and … basically offended everyone in the room.

I’m not that familiar with Peretti’s stand-up (but she is very good at dealing with sexist scumbags on Twitter), but her rambling, awkward style made it seem as though she was timid about delivering a joke that would piss off everyone in the audience. Like, for instance, suggesting that if Silicon Valley wanted to increase diversity, maybe they shouldn’t hire a “non-white host.”

There were a lot of jokes at the expense of Silicon Valley’s lack of diversity, but the funniest, most painful barb was at aimed at Uber. “If this were basketball,” she said, “Lyft would be the Clippers and Uber would be Kobe Bryant, because of all the rape stuff.”

Ouch.
