Bill O'Reilly: Sudden Friend of the Gays? Not So Fast

I promised myself this morning that I’d resist the urge, should it arise, to post any more clips from Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show today. Three days in a row? To a woman that’s rarely even mentioned in these parts? Ridiculous.

But, this is too much to resist. Bill O’Relly — who continues to try and position himself as the sane one at Fox News — surprised the hell out of me by coming out in defense of Ellen DeGeneres in the One Million Moms protest of JCPenneys. He actually compares the One Million Moms to McCarthyism, calling the protest a witch hunt. ON FOX NEWS.

Dogs and cats, mass hysteria.

Unfortunately, O’Reilly hasn’t come around yet to gay marriage, having sided against the 9th Circuit’s ruling overturning Prop 8. To be fair, however, he does make a legal argument and not a moral one (i.e., the Constitution confers no right to marry, therefore stripping said right cannot be unconstitutional, although that argument overlooks the Equal Protection Clause).

Jesus Bill, could you have picked a dumber person to defend the 9th Circuit's opinion? Worst defense ever. She COMPLETELY misunderstands how the courts, the constitution and this decision all work.

Sigh.

OK, first Bill Maher starts agreeing with Newt Gingrich, telling Occupy Protesters to get a job and take a bath, and now Bill O'Reilly is against McCarthyism??

I am convinced that Bill O’Reilly would rescue a fly trapped in a spider's web, just so he could have the pleasure of pulling its wings off and sucking its blood himself.

I doubt he even cares about the blood; he's all about the wings.

Also, yes, it's true. This man has no dick.

Seriously though, how does god make the tide go in and out?!

Miracle.

The tongue goes in, the tongue goes out. Never a miscommunication. Hey, I don't like boycotts and bigots either, but, aren't there more important issues going on than Ellen's right to make more millions of dollars being a spokeswoman for a clothing store? I mean, I think Ellen seems like a nice person and all, but, really?

richard,

What's your point? If there are important things going on, they wouldn't be on mainstream news, and definitely not on Bill O'Reilly's show.

This isn't the first time he's done something like this. I remember him defending Rosie O'Donnell in the past before, too. Maybe he just really likes lesbian comedians.

He doesn't try to position himself, he IS the sane one at FOX News. That doesn't mean that he isn't holding some pretty retarded opinions and loves to get into shouting matches instead of informed discussions, but underneath it he seems like a decent guy. Jon Stewart said it best a few years back: "When you actually listen to what he has to say he is actually less reactionary and less knee-jerk than the rest of the network, his issue seems to be ego."
