It’s been 13 years since Project Greenlight, the reality show that offered $1 million to a screenwriter to make his first feature film. I watched all three seasons, and we can thank Project Greenlight for helping to launch the careers of horror screenwriters (My Bloody Valentine 3D, Piranha 3D) and helping to establish the career of Shia LaBeouf, who who was in The Battle of Shaker Heights, the film made by the second season winner Efram Potelle.

It was a fun idea, and there were some interesting episodes. So, why not bring it back? It’s returning to HBO, they’re looking for a first-time director, and famous directors will eventually be involved in the mentoring process, like Ben Affleck himself. Mostly, though, it’s an excuse to see Matt and Ben hanging out together, even in a mostly formal manner.
