We’ve been fans of Tru TV’s debunking comedy show Adam Ruins Everything since episode one, and have gone on to relish their questioning of gender stereotypes, sex myths, and Alpha Male bullshit. But it turns out even know-it-all Adam Conover makes mistakes. So he and his eponymous show owned up to them in a corrections corner so honest and up front it feels like it comes from an alternate universe where the president doesn’t regularly spout abject lies and employ “fake news” as a catchphrase.

“Humans sometimes make mistakes,” Conover says. “It wouldn’t be truthful to claim we were infallible. The intellectually honest thing to do is to be transparent about our process, and public about our mistakes. That’s why we put our sources onscreen and admit when we can do better. The point of our show isn’t to be right every time. It’s to encourage our audience to question what they think they know—and if we’re lucky—to change a few minds.”

It sucks to realize you’ve been wrong. And it’s hard to admit it, especially publicly. But if we don’t, then we fail to grow. And we fail to be the positive influence we aim to be in the world. So props to Adam Ruins Everything for owning their mistakes, and striving to do better. It’s a lesson we can all learn from.
