A 'Doctor Who' Mini Episode Starring The Sexiest Doctor? Yes Please!

Well that headline is a matter of subjective opinion, ain’t it? A little Rorschach for all of you. Who did you come here expecting? Well, no matter what, it’s a Steven Moffat written shortie call “The Night Of The Doctor.” Enjoy you TARDIS-heads.

Yup, that’s right, Paul McGann. Blame my fondness for Withnail and I or Season One of Luther if you must, but I’ve always thought he was the sexiest. Actually, I think he can blame McGann’s smolder.

Now, at least, we have an answer as to what could convince a woman to abandon John Luther. Zoe left him for a Time Lord. Bet he used the "Bigger on the inside" line.

  • Pentadactyl

Hey, it's Josie from Being Human UK ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm038... ) Kind of an ironic appearance b/c there she was the one turning down immortality.

  • Pitry

Still hoping RTD would come back to write some episodes TBH...

  • Irina

Nope, Tennant all the way. In his Fright Night outfit, prefferably.

  • foolsage

Well then. Now we know which Doctor John Hurt is playing. Nifty stuff!

  • BWeaves

Except now it messes up the numbering. I liked Tennant being Ten. TENnant = TEN. I liked Smith being 11, and that was his jersey number when he played soccer.

But John FRIGGIN' Hurt as the Doctor. I'm so in.

  • foolsage

    Tennant remains the 10th Doctor.

    1) Hartnell
    2) Troughton
    3) Pertwee
    4) Baker (Tom)
    5) Davison
    6) Baker (Colin)
    7) McCoy
    8) McGann, then Hurt (the regeneration here was not a Time Lord regen so doesn't count as another incarnation)
    9) Eccleston
    10) Tennant
    11) Smith
    12) Capaldi

  • BWeaves

    I like your thinking!

I'm a little confused as to why he didn't automatically regenerate like normal, but I really don't care. I love both McGann and Hurt, so anything that gives me more of them is fine with me.

  • foolsage

Well, it's either what I've postulated above, or Capaldi is the 13th Doctor, which we've been told is supposed to be impossible (Time Lords only having 12 regenerations).

I suspect he would have regenerated normally (which is to say chaotically) if he'd waited a couple more minutes, but instead chose the free controlled regeneration he was offered.

  • DataAngel

The 13th Doctor would be the 12th regeneration.

  • DataAngel

I am still giddy-speechless over this mini episode and I want more of them. LOTS more of them. And I've renewed my interest in tracking down the McGann books and audios.

Also. True Story: Both Withnail AND Marwood are Time Lords.

  • A. Smith

I thought he was canonically The Great Intelligence.

  • DataAngel

He's also semi-canonically the 1st. Or the 9th. Until the 2005 reboot, Grant was the official 9th Doctor.

I think the official stance is that "Scream of the Shalka" is "canon, but you work out how it fits". Popular ideas are that Grant's Doctor is "One as a young man". It's also been kicked around that he's the 9th Doctor after a massive split caused by the Time War. Parallel Universe 9. But a different one than the one Rose ends up in.

  • A. Smith

News to me but I'll take it.

  • BWeaves

Well, he was outside regular Doctor Who, but he did do the animated episodes, and he was the good looking doctor in the Red Nose special, so it counts more than Peter Cushing's version.

  • Pentadactyl

Shada is brilliant! Definitely give that one a listen. Despite the movie, I have a soft spot for McGann b/c he's the doctor from Shada.

(I say that as a big fan of Douglas Adams and someone who had Dirk Gently down as her favorite book for a long while, so grain of salt. Possibly it was only brilliant to me, but objectively not so much.)

  • BWeaves

We need a Withnail and I Doctor Who mashup, and I'm not the one to do it.

  • DataAngel

Click the link. See the whole thing.

  • DataAngel

I'm not the one to do it either, but I fully support this.

"We've gone on holiday by mistake!" is just so Doctor Who.

  • BWeaves

OH Godtopus, I have a pride of moist lions.

  • NateMan

That... That was awesome. I'd give you a slow clap if I could.

  • bleujayone

Already I want at least a few flashback episodes featuring him.
