Hey, Look! It's The Things That Happened On HBO Last Night That WEREN'T 'Game of Thrones'

Last night, as you may have heard, was the fifth season premiere of some show. But did you know that it was also the premiere of two OTHER shows? Yup, HBO pulled out all the stops to treat us all to a real nice night of blood and boobs and nerds and swearing and more swearing.

At the start of its second season, Silicon Valley had the sad and difficult task of dealing with the loss of Christopher Evan Welch, who passed away before the end of the show’s first season aired last year. They did this in last night’s premiere by giving Welch’s character, the beyond eccentric Peter Gregory, a fantastic death.

Well, sort of fantastic.

I mean, more or less.

Kinda.

Actually, it was really just embarrassing.

And we also got to see what a Silicon Valley funeral looks like, complete with eulogies on the deceased’s feelings about SnapChat, and the appropriate method of breaking down his impact on society.

After Silicon Valley, Veep had its fourth season premiere, and it’s back in fine form. We now have President Selina Meyer in the White House, and based on this episode, it’s going to be a fascinating, uncomfortable delight watching her and her team adjust. I have to say, though, that the highlight of the episode was the introduction of these two frenemies:

I would watch Patton Oswalt and Timothy Simons do nothing, but instead we get to watch them… groping.

Between these two shows and Game of Thrones, you’d better make sure you have a backup stolen HBO Go password and a clear schedule for all your Sundays from now until forever. Because good news! Both Silicon Valley and Veep have been renewed for additional seasons.
