I can smell your dreams. I can smell them from here. And honestly? They smell f***ing TERRIBLE.

  • Excepting "30 Rock" (because I haven't watched it yet), "Perfect Couples" was the second funniest show last night. I really don't get why you dismiss that show, it's pretty damn funny and the cast is a solid ensemble.

"Parks" was first as usual. "Community" was saved by the Abed and Troy commentary, but I'm getting kind of tired with the constant focus on Annie. "The Office" was funny with the Dwight/Jim stuff, other than that it was a bust. Thank God they got rid of Packer but this is the second episode in a row where Michael starts out thinking one thing and pulls a 180 by the end. It's really out of character for him to "learn".

I swear there was a particular line that stood out to me last night, but I can't remember what it was or which show it came from.

I didn't think that episode of 30 Rock was better than Community or Parks, but it was an improvement over some of the last few episodes they've done.

As far as I'm concerned Perfect Couples might as well not exist. Same thing goes for Outsourced.

Abed and Troys commentary-the running ' updates ' along the bottom and the canidates break downs with quotes were solid.

I really think you need to add Archer to this list. It's on Thursday nights and it's hilarious.

And I know the whole Ron Swanson meat thing is a bit overdone but when he said let me make sure you understand, I want all your bacon and eggs, I fell out of my chair.

And yeah, Community was vaguely disappointing. So Pierce is just a part of the group again. Really?
And what happened to Shirley, she's kind of useless now.

Posted by: juicyjui at February 25, 2011 10:13 AM

Yeah, it was weird to see Pierce back with the group like nothing happened. Especially when he said he wanted to push that girl to her death.

He has become unhinged, people. Expunge and bring Leonard in, if you need an old person.

So is the grading thing about lines only? Because I thought Community earned better than a “B” especially for sly sexual innuendo developed in the Abed/Secret Service theme — or did you miss that?

Big Bang Theory was also quite good: Yeah, you need DVR to get it all. The Office, as usual, was embarrassing. And I guess “bitchy people” wouldn’t get the sweetness that runs through Outsourced.

Posted by: Jerry Kenney at February 25, 2011 10:49 AM

People, just because you don't like Pearce doesn't mean the characters on Community feel the same way you do. Or, if they do, they also have the appropriate guilty feelings for being part of what pushed him to become such a jerk. Also, he got stabbed in the face with a pencil. Justice Beaver would be proud.

It wasn't a great night. It was just mostly OK, specially when compared to last week's round of episodes. Need to catch up on The Office, but the rest of them were just alright. Loved Ben and Tom and the nightclub scenes, but honestly, Ann and Chris are beginning to bore me. All of the shining moments were between Ron and Leslie, as they always are. They have a great relationship.

You've been an outside cat. Now you need to be an inside cat. No more peeing on the walls.

Honestly, the potential for Jim and Dwight teaming up not to prank Packer, but to gaslight the HELL out of him, was staggering. And he's gone already. Damn!

What's funny is how much the guy who plays Packer is a total 180 from that character. Sweet, nice family man.

Posted by: Snuggiepants at February 25, 2011 11:43 AM

It was just a very jarring transition from last week, when Troy destroyeda break room and went catatonic and Jeff destroyed Pierce's face to them sitting placidly in the study room, all together with very little tension. I can understand the characters may feel differently than the audience, but I need to SEE IT, dammit!

Pencil in the face is very small justice (beaver).

Posted by: Internet Magpie at February 25, 2011 12:18 PM

    "Angela loves pussycats, Packer loves--"
    "NO, DON'T SAY IT."
"DOGS! I was gonna say dogs!"

Hee. I do love whenever Packer shows up. I wish they had focused more on the pranks and less on Andy and Pam. That was kinda lame. But her closing line ("I'm full on CORRUPT") was kind of awesome.

Posted by: figgy at February 25, 2011 12:19 PM

It was well explained last season after Pierce pantsed Shirley: They have to keep him around or else another member of the group will have to become The Pierce.

Every Totem Pole needs a low man. Look around. If you don't see him, it's you.

I know Olyphant was hired to be an outside salesman, but should't he at least have been mentioned on last night's episode? "The Office" is really getting disjointed lately.

Posted by: TylerDFC at February 25, 2011 1:11 PM

Community's coming up on a three week break - this episode seemed like it was written to air after the break, with the rehab reference.

Posted by: Beartato at February 25, 2011 1:11 PM

Am I the only one getting sick of the Liz Lemon schtick? They seem to be making her progressively more goofy and ridiculous. I realize that all of the characters on 30 Rock are vague caricatures, but at first Liz at least somewhat resembled an actual person. It's just growing tiring. Is it just me?

Posted by: GeekChic at February 25, 2011 1:47 PM

Ugh, Community. I still watch because it's funny (and it's worth it for Donald Glover alone) but the non-joke writing on this show is crap. Hey, I wonder if Pierce will be a crazy jerk who no one takes seriously in the next episode! Or maybe Jeff will be a cynical ass, but then learn that he has feelings after all! And Annie's attempts to overachieve might--gasp!--backfire on her! Also, Britta and Shirley will...be there, too.

I mean, if part of the "joke" is that the characters are completely static and never change, okay (BORING, but okay), but in that case I wish they'd cool it with the touchy-feely lesson-learned crap at the end of every episode.

...I have a lot of feelings about this, apparently.

    GeekChic,

It happens to (just about) every television comedy. They have to continually up the ante until the characters become so silly, they not only don't resemble who they originally were, but get so goofy that they aren't funny anymore. I guess I have lower expectations, because I'm not turning on Liz Lemon/30 Rock yet, but it's certainly happened to lots of shows. For some reason, the first one I always think of is how Phoebe and Joey continued to get dumber as the show went on. You see all of the characters gravitate towards their most extreme traits as the writers try squeeze every last little bit of comedy from the tube.

    Posted by: L4NkYb at February 25, 2011 2:37 PM

Phoebe and Joey from Friends obviously.

    Posted by: L4NkYb at February 25, 2011 2:40 PM

Since I am poor and watch my TV old fashioned style via antenna, I turn on NBC at 8 and let it run until 10:30. Perfect Couples is the one show I wouldn't seek out, but it actually isn't that bad. If they replaced Olivia Munn with an actress who can, you know, act, the whole cast would be pretty good. And I like a show that involves no stupid dating setups, just couples, and that they basically just keep the stories revolving around the main 6 characters interactions. It isn't great, but seems like it might grow into something decent, which is better than 90% of TV.

Anybody else think that the final two candidates in the Greendale elections (on Community) where a bit similar to Obama and McCain? Magnitude: a young but charismatic character; Leonard: old and cantankerous. Maybe the whole episode was a commentary on our political system! With all the people who listened to the candidates, only 11 cared enough to vote. The bringing up of past indiscretions (Wenger's audition tape) that don't actually have any bearing on his ability to do the job now. The name change of Leonard to "Rodriguez"; the fact Pierce was there basically to neutralize another opponent (Nader/Perot).

    ...or not.

30 Rock was terrible. Alec Baldwin's storyline was funny (because it was Alec Baldwin, could someone else have pulled that off?) but predictable. Everything else was stupid and not funny. I never thought I would miss Tracy Morgan, but apparently less Tracy means more Jenna.

    Posted by: Three-nineteen at February 25, 2011 8:33 PM

Stopped watching Community around Christmas, don't miss it one bit..."Joey's" new show Episodes is much much funnier, and that is a sad statement for Community.

Raising Hope is always a chuckle, as is Modern Family. We also enjoy Parks and Recreation, Amy Poehler sells the show, just so earnest!

Mr. Sunshine is a fail, could not make it thru the second episode.

Posted by: TrickyHD at February 26, 2011 12:45 AM

I liked the concept of 30 Rock (taking on the question of when is ironically funny (or ironic stereotype) just not funny), but I felt like they dropped the ball at the end. Loved the marine biology arc, however.

    @Jerry Kenney,

Are you fucking serious? First of all, that wasn't fucking sly. Secondly, that was horrible, obvious and like a cheese-induced stroke. Tell me you're joking, so I can sleep again.
