Ruby Rose Deletes Her Twitter Because The World Just Can't Abide Joy

My familiarity with Ruby Rose extends only to what I’ve seen her in — Orange is the New Black, The Meg, John Wick 2, and Pitch Perfect 3 — as well as the amount of drool the staff expends over Ruby Rose GIFs behind the scenes.

Why the sudden lightning flash surrounding her casting as Batwoman on a CW series is beyond me. It is absolutely insane to me that anyone — let alone droves of people — would question Ruby Rose’s lesbian bona fides (she’s been out since she was 12), or why questioning someone’s sexual orientation is even a thing!

Anyway, Ruby Rose ate shit on Twitter for two days from people who are out of their goddamn minds and have too much time and/or anger and don’t know what to do with it before she deleted her Twitter account over the weekend. This was her last message:

“Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman’ come from — has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change. I wish we would all support each other and our journeys.

When women and when minorities join forces we are unstoppable… when we tear each other down it’s much more hurtful than from any group. But hey/ love a challenge I just wish women and the LGBT community supported each other more, My wish was we were all a little kinder and more supportive of each other…Sending everyone my love and gratitude, it’s been a rollercoaster of a year, this month especially.

I am looking forward to getting more than 4 hours of sleep and to break from Twitter to focus all my energy on my next 2 projects. If you need me, I’ll be on my Bat Phone.”

Landing that gig was supposed to be the highlight of her life — she couldn’t stop crying with joy while walking The Meg red carpet last week — and social media finds a way to tarnish even that.

A number of folks have also questioned her acting ability (and that I have also seen here), and I don’t know: She seemed fine in Orange is the New Black and The Meg, but also, this is a CW series, where Brandon Routh is regularly employed (no offense, Brandon). It’s not like Ruby Rose is the lead in a Keanu Reeves movie … oh wait. Keanu is cool and a dude, so we let his acting skills slide, while Ruby Rose is cool and … a woman, so we give the CW shit for hiring someone based on the vibe they exude?

Because based purely on “aura,” on BDE or whatever the kids are calling it: Ruby Rose is a goddamn star in the Keanu mold. We should all be lucky to have her straddling that Batwoman motorcycle.

In the meantime, you can still keep up with Queen Ruby over on Instagram, where she has wisely turned off comments from folks she doesn’t know.

Found inappropriate props at @lamusica and made the most of them 😂
