Shows Watched: 23

The Honorable Mentions: 23. “Man Up,” 22. “Survivor,” 21. “The Middle,” 20. “Once Upon a Time,” 19. “Modern Family,” 18. “Bored to Death,” 17. “Suburgatory.” 16. “Hart of Dixe,” 15. “Enlightened,” 14. “The Good Wife,” 13. “American Horror Story” 12. “Revenge.” and 11. “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

A few notes about the honorable mentions this week: I hate that it’s true, but “American Horror Story” is growing on me. Even sadder, perhaps, is that so is the CW’s “Hart of Dixie.” It’s a really sweet show, y’all; Jason Street is fantastic, and so is Vince’s Dad from “Friday Night Lights.” I’m really trying with “Bored to Death,” but it’s not doing it for me. It’s too dry, or an acquired taste. I didn’t care for the first season, and I thought the second season was great. This season, so far, feels flat. I did like this week’s episode of “Enlightened” more than the pilot episode, however. Luke Wilson is great in it. I know I should probably check in on “Psych” this season, and during the next rerun break, I’m going to see what it is about the “Vampire Diaries” that have so many of you in a tizzy. I hope it’s better than “True Blood.”

The 10 Best Episodes of the Week

10. Parenthood: A down week for “Parenthood” as they sought to shoehorn that Cee Lo guest appearance into the plotline (although, his soul version of that Janis Joplin song was outstanding). I do not like that Seth has returned, if only because it will cause complications for Jason Ritter’s character, and Jason Ritter’s character doesn’t deserve complications. The highlight of the episode, however, was Joel’s speech to Zeke. That was impressive.

9. Homeland: A transitional episode, mostly to showcase Nicholas’ crazy, let us know that he knows that his wife was sleeping with his best friend, and set up a potential relationship with Carrie, who had to remove surveillance from Nicholas’ house. I’m happy about that, as her spying was creepy.

8. The Walking Dead: TK will have the full recap up tomorrow morning. I wish there were more zombies in this show.

7. The League: The “Au Pair” episode with a guest stint from Matthew Berry, which may be the dorkiest guest spot in a comedy since Wil Wheaton on “Big Bang Theory.” I’m not complaining, although I find Berry to be mostly insufferable. However, he’s certainly more palatable than that fuckwit Eric Karabel, amiright? (I just lost seven readers).

6. Dexter: Whatever else you want to say about this sixth season, which doesn’t have the guest star power of previous seasons, the Doomsday killers are the most creative killers of the series so far. And Mos “It’s Just Mos, Motherfucker” Def has been outstanding; I’m going to hate to see him fall back into his old ways and ultimately under the knife of Dexter.

5. Happy Endings : The “Whisker basket” and “Women be stoppin’” lines were enough by themselves to make this a top five showing on a week with no Thursday night NBC sitcoms.

4. How I Met Your Mother: This show is on again, off again, but when it’s on — as it was this week — it’s one of the best sitcoms on the air. They’re also making brilliant use of Kal Penn.

3. Up All Night: It was probably too early to feature a flashback episode, but this week’s “Up All Night” was my favorite of the season. Oh, and look what I found on YouTube:

2. Sons of Anarchy: After a slow third season, Kurt Sutter is packing it in this year: There’s a death and/or a major event in every episode. I don’t want to spoil it, but that last scene this week was a heartbreaker. He/She was one of my favorite characters. You know what I love the most about this season, though? Clay might kill Tara. Oh, yeah.

1. Boss: I can already sense that this is going to be one of those shows that gains steam in between seasons when most of you find it on Netflix because I don’t think Starz is available in that many homes. Check out my review.
