World's Greatest Dad Trailer

"Movies Are For Losers and Art F*gs" / Dustin Rowles

Trailers | June 22, 2009 | Comments (15)

I got a chance to see World’s Greatest Dad a few months ago, and it’s not what you’d imagine a movie starring Robin Williams and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait would be, which is to say — it’s not a 21st Century Police Academy. It was oddball, for sure — it’s about a failed novelist/high school teacher whose prick of a son strangles himself to death while masturbating. But it’s strangely affecting and, at times, uncomfortably hilarious. It’s not studio fare, but it’s likely the kind of movie that will allow us to forgive Robin Williams for the last ten years, until Old Dogs debuts in November, at which point we can go back to loathing him.

"that will allow us to forgive Robin Williams for the last ten years.."

No, I don't think I can do that, not even temporarily.

Buuut this might be worth a look.

You got us a red-band trailer! You are awesome.

I saw this trailer over the weekend and it's the first Robin Williams movie I'm actually interested in seeing since One Hour Photo. In fact, this looks like it could be really terrific.

Watch this back-to-back with 'Election'.

Bobcat Goldthwait was making the rounds on one of the busses at Sundance (with a camera crew of course). He was a great guy, but he talks like a regular person, and my soul was a little bit crushed.

This looks fantastic. I was tittering like a school girl the whole way through. A school girl that looks at vaginas and carries a bowie knife in her Hello-Kitty back pack.

Anyone who has not seen Bobcat's first film 'Sleeping Dogs Lie' is missing out. Watched it two weekends ago and just loved it. Bobcat is a great story teller.

I think I'll use "If you don't act right at dinner, I'll stab you in the face" for pretty much everything from now on.

Bobcat's first movie was "Shakes the Clown", the pinnacle of alcoholic clown movies.

The last line of the trailer is amazing!

"I wish, I like Zombies!"

This summary from IMDb doesn't sound like the movie advertised in that coming attraction at all:

"Lance is a high school teacher who protects his family from shame following the embarrassing accidental death of his son. Lance writes a fake suicide note to cover up the death, but without permission the note is published and becomes an unexpected hit. Keen to be a successful author, Lance produces an entire journal which he passes off as his son's."

I like my comedy black, with three sugars, and a blueberry bagel with orange marmalade and ...

Oh, sorry, haven't had lunch.

Also?

"Patch Adams," 1998

So better make that 11 years, at a minimum.

I can dig it.

Look like my kind of funny, esp. RW laughing at the "hardest job you'll ever love" pablum.

I know I'm trying to close the barn door after the horses get out, but still: why the need to tell us the son strangles himself to death while masturbating? That wasn't in the fucking trailer. What the fuck?

Oh, I adore Robin Williams--and I'm so freakin' happy to have a rare chance to say that here without prefacing it with an apology!
