Without "Community" The Return of "30 Rock" Isn't Nearly As "Exciting" As NBC Would Like You To Believe (No Matter How Much Tina Fey Exposes Herself)

But this five minute preview/behind-the-scenes look at season six is much more enticing than I would have thought prior to seeing it. Much better than the short promo from last week, but probably still not enough to make NBC Thursdays appointment television in the coming year. For me, anyway, the return of “Community” is kind of a sticking point. Your mileage may (and most likely does) vary on that, and the trailer, too:

I’m still not sure how I feel about the Kim Jong Il kidnapping plot with Jack’s wife (the always exemplary Elizabeth Banks), but I do like how the “celebrity idiot defender” version of Denise Richards may be a result of some Tracy Morgan-ish controversy for Tracy Jordan. And it looks like some nights there could be a Will Arnett double team at the top and bottom of the comedy block, with “30 Rock” leading off and “Up All Night” most likely cleaning up after “The Office.” Plus, as I mentioned, Tina Fey exposes herself:

Okay, NBC, you’ve got me on the hook. What are you going to do to reel me back in?

Rob Payne also writes the indie comic The Unstoppable Force, tweets on the Twitter @RobOfWar, and his ware can be purchased here (if you’re into the sort of thing). He’s a shameless self-promoter.

Shut the hell up, I'm super excited about this. And no more Community to sit through before Parks and Recreation.

BROUGHT'N!

C'mon, Figgy, just let us mourn in peace. You'll only have to hear about Community until it comes back or it's officially canceled. Or maybe for another month after that. Oh, who am I kidding. Commmunityyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pajiba: Even when Community isn't on, we will still find a way to talk about it.

Speaking of P&R: How long do I have to suffer borefests like the pilot until the show gets good?

Posted by: FabMax at December 18, 2011 8:43 PM

Matt and figgy have both committed a hate crime. Streets behind, the pair of them.

Is the "Community" thing going to turn out like the "Firefly" thing and the "Arrested Development" thing? Because I tell you, the whinging on the internet got to the point that if they had brought the Bluths back, I would have prayed for the Serenity to come crashing down from the heavens and take out both sets of characters. AND I LIKED BOTH SHOWS.

@FabMax: I say at the end of season 1, Parks and Rec starts to gel. The second season is really when it reaches levels of comedic and heartwarming perfection.

Considering the audience demographic for Community is the same as that which made the Kardashians the unstoppable celebrity powerhouse they are, I'm glad the show is done for.

Yes, Mr. Stitch, because it is impossible that a demographic is diverse in its tastes and attributes.

That's why all black people are felons, every white person is a racist Klansmen (Klansman?), and every Asian person went to an Ivy League school.

maka- you humor impaired obedient consumer, I hope your holiday season is another drunken pot-fueld redneck holocaust with a broken nose and a 911 phone call spritzer.

Heaven forbid anyone assail your inexplicable media preferences, it might MEAN THE END OF MANKIND !!

Sarcasm doesn't always translate on the internet, hombre. My apologies for not understanding your... joke?

Since it looks like they've already shot quite a bit, this could cause some re-shoots.

Why has no one realized that Community lost it's spark midway through the 2nd season?
You know, when the Russo brothers copy-and-pasted the plot of the Conspiracy Theory/Night School episode from one of their AD episodes?
Pierce as a villain? Chang being cringe-worthy pathetic? Shirley reverting back to being so 1-sided?
That's not character development, that's lazy writing.

I will admit, I'm kinda sad that it's getting canceled now that they finally got back on track in the post-304 episodes (Chaos Theory episode was underwhelming; sure it was elaborate and subtle in it's character study, but it came off as pretentious and unnecessary).
I kinda wish they would return to the season 1 "Jeff Winger hour" format.
Dude was a boss in that era.

@ Mr Stitch, what the holy hell are you talking about? Community generally appeals to artsy hipster types, while the Kardashians fanbase is all 14 year old girls. No exceptions.

Forgot this was an article about 30 Rock.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I just don't get the constant, neverending love for Community on here. I'm with the majority of Pajibans (Pajiba-ese?) on most things: I think Breaking Bad is the best show on tv; I love P&R, Homeland and my opinions on various movies tend to agree with the reviewers on here. But Community? Eh. It can be clever, and is unique, but I just don't find it consistently funny.

bring on 30 Rock!
