Will Tower Heist Be the First Funny Live-Action Movie that Eddie Murphy Has Made in 13 Years?

If you don’t count Bowfinger, it’s been 19 years since Eddie Murphy made a funny live-action film, and that’s only if you count The Distinguished Gentleman and Boomerang (I do). If you don’t, add another 4 years to take you back to Coming to America.

That’s one long dry streak. Can Brett Ratner interrupt it? In a Ben Stiller movie? It seems doubtful, and the trailer doesn’t offer much hope.

If Stiller plays this perfectly straight, it might be worth seeing. IF.

Eddie should of been singing "Roxanne" in that cell.

Bowfinger is the last good film either Murphy or Martin made.

Ratner. Stiller. Murphy.

Are you trying to get me to burn the cineplex down?

Well not sure if I would count Bowfinger, but I would count the Nutty Professor so its been 15 years for me. Holy Crap.

Eh, though...Daddy Day Care was pretty funny. Family-oriented, but funny. That was 2003. So...yea still a long time.

Ha ha ha! Did you see the part where the fat maid was stuffing something into her mouth!? Boy, do fat people like food, right?

Hey, what about Life? I like that one, and I thinks it's a comedy.

Haha, glad the girl from Precious got another role. This movie looks interesting only bc of the cast. Matthew Broderick. Now when's the last good movie HE'S been in?

Posted by: Littlejon2001 at July 28, 2011 1:01 PM

Bowfinger is good. I just realized that's the last new Eddie Murphy movie that I saw with the exception of the original Shrek.

I feel like this would have a better chance of being funny if Raaaatner wasn't involved because most, if not all, of that cast has super funny potential. We'll see.

Yeah Life and the original Shrek were both funny imo.

This could be ok. Could be. I mean Ratner doesn't inspire confidence, but I don't think Matthew Broderick (WOW he looks old,) the girl from precious, Murphy, Stiller and Alan Alda would all sign up for a movie that will be devoid of laughs. Oh and Tea Leoni. Not That these people separately have made good movie choices, but could they really all make one simultaneous TERRIBLE choice? Cause in my mind it'll either be terrible or pretty hilarious.

I must be the only person on the planet who enjoyed Pluto Nash.

I think BOWFINGER was very funny. In fact, I wish they would make a full-length FAKE PURSE NINJAS.

Wouldn't it be awesome if instead of Eddie Murphy, "Kit Ramsey's brother" would be billed?

Everyone may have signed on because the script was awesome, but Ratner will probably fuck it up. At the very least, he won't rein in Stiller like he probably needs to.

You and Armond White, superasente.

So excited that I posted a link on fb. Finally, jebus Eddie, why did it take you so long to realize that we still love it when you curse like a sailor.

Superasante - I think you are, bro. Hell *I* couldn't even sit through that one.

Casey Affleck is in this as well. It's like the movie is taunting the viewer into liking this, but it's still way too early to know. The trailer looked like it was trying to be funny while not really being funny. Murphy at least looks like he's trying.
