This weekend, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt will celebrate their first wedding anniversary. Though they’d already been together for years, it’s always a big deal when A-list couples marry — and divorce. After having fallen in love while making Mr. & Mrs. Smith, ten years later the couple are reuniting onscreen to play a troubled married couple in the Jolie-directed, By the Sea. Filmed during Pitt and Jolie’s Malta honeymoon (nah, that’s not weird), the pair are said to have shot some “crazy sex scenes” that may or may not have involved co-star Mélanie Laurent, and hey…wait a minute, is any of this is starting to sound a little familiar? Two A-list stars married to each other make an erotically-tinged film about a married couple with problems… Because back in 1998, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman started filming Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut, and after the film — right around their tenth anniversary — the couple split. Yikes.

Sure, the coincidences don’t mean a thing, but for some reason it still makes me nervous.

I’m one of those idiots who totally bought into the Cruise/Kidman love story, and their break-up (ridiculously) gutted me. And I’m kinda sorta similarly hoping the Jolie-Pitts will buck the trend and make it. So, uh…

By the Sea also stars Niels Arestrup, Richard Bohringer and Melvil Poupaud; it steams up theaters beginning November 13th.
