'Wiccan Good and Love the Earth and Women Power and I'll Be Over Here': 'Salem' Trailer

By Steven Lloyd Wilson | Trailers | January 27, 2014 | Comments ()

WGN has decided to get into the original programming game, which is important for a station that currently only airs reruns and Cubs games, and since the outcomes of the former are less predictable than the outcomes of the latter, that leaves some room for creativity. I mean, sure, they have local news, which is terribly exciting to catch from a thousand miles away when flipping channels, but for six months it’s “IT’S FUCKING COLD” and for six months it’s “IT’S FUCKING HUMID”. We get it, you wish you lived in California.

Naturally, WGN decided to go right to the top of the food chain for original cable dramas by latching onto historical gothic horror. The Salem witch trials to be exact. Because if you’re a Chicago network trying to make it big, it’s only natural to smear Boston.

Here’s the trailer:

The fact that I recognized most of those actors from other mostly bad science fiction and fantasy television series probably says more about my television watching habits than I should be comfortable admitting in public.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

Stephen Lloyd Wilson, I love you for that Buffy reference.

How come this says "5 comments" when there's only one? Anyway, I'll be
watching this show for sure, *and* I caught the Buffy reference in the
title. So, yay! Good times, good times.

As a Chicagoan, I would much rather smear New York City first, but we have to wait until July for their next original drama, which is called "Manhattan".

SLW is awarded 5 internet points for the Buffy reference. Internet points have no cash value and are non transferable. Internet points are high in calories, so be sure not to consume more than 2 in any 8 hour period.

I know actual, real-life current residents of Salem and they would probably be pretty pissed about this show. The unfortunate few who've chosen to call Salem home don't mind discussing the town's past, but there's so much disinformation and outright hysterical history surrounding the place that doing so intelligently is almost impossible. Also apparently in the fall it becomes difficult to get around town because of all the weirdos that come out of the woodwork. Basically anyone who's ever stood in a circle in the woods and held hands feels the need to show up and "pay homage." So... Lots and lots and lots of dark lipstick wearing, non ironic cape owners making the lines at Starbucks intolerably long more or less.

This show looks bad. And that's coming from someone who started that stupid "Dracula" show with the skinny/handsome guy from all those English period pieces in it.

Try "The Three Musketeers". It's beyond stupid.

Janet Montgomery really needs to fire her agent.

*Plus side it has Azure Parsons.
