We're Going to Run This Bitch Down
People I don't know, random strangers I run into: I don't really like to tell them what I do. It often creates this awkward situation where they want to tell me about all their favorite films, and ask me how much I must have loved a movie like Tooth Fairy or Grown Ups, before going on about how they don't pay attention to movie reviews because critics don't know what regular people like (hello? I'm standing right here). I always end up feeling like a jackass at the end of these conversations, especially if someone says, "I hated that movie. There was so much swearing. Why do people have to swear so much?" I shrink into myself, completely ashamed.
I met a man the other day who asked me what I did for a living, and when I told him, he volunteered that his favorite movie of all time was Man on Fire. I don't even know what to say to that. I just sort of nodded my head and said, "Yeah. That was a good one." And then I returned to my office and despaired at what a completely useless occupation I have.
Anyway, speaking of Man on Fire, here's the trailer for Unstoppable, which re-teams Denzel Washington and Tony Scott from MoF, along with Chris Pine, who has seriously grown on me since Star Trek. I have no idea how you stretch a movie about a unmanned runaway train into a full-length feature, but with Tony Scott on board, I'm sure there'll be lots of flash cuts involved. It doesn't look terrible, but the trailer does seem to give away the entire movie.
