We Need To Talk About Kevin Trailer: Because I Want You To Share This Crippling Sadness

We Need To Talk About Kevin, based on the book by Lionel Shriver, is nothing less than a staggeringly depressing story, about a strung-out, tormented mother (Tilda Swinton) dealing with the aftermath of her son committing a horrific act of violence. It’s a terrible, haunting subject, and the movie? The movie looks absolutely captivating. I’ll watch it, then want to die a little, and then spend weeks thinking about it. But goddamn it, I’m going to watch it.

The trailer is a unique one. It’s got an odd, disjointed feel to it, switching between quirky and tragic and all the bumps in between, aided by John C. Reilly playing the oblivious-appearing father. We showed you several clips from the film a few months ago (see them here), and now there’s a trailer. It’s an international trailer, so it’s subtitled in French, but do not let that deter you in the least.

I'm so down for this. I love Tilda SWINTON and John C Reily blows me away with how well he can do drama. It'll be a depressing experience, but it'll be awesome to see these two actors give it their all.

That pram looked like Rosemary's baby's.

Looks like one of those "I'll watch it because it looks like a great movie, but I will NEVER watch it again" types

like Schindler's List

NOW THAT is a trailer.

I think it's one of those movies that I'll watch and love. Then I'll spend the next year suggesting it to all the oblivious parents who are convinced that their children are such perfect little angels.

I loved the book. Couldn't put it down.

Are they trying to keep the main plot a secret?

My husband handed me the book and said, "This is why I don't want to have kids."

One of the most riveting and thought-provoking books I've read.

We ended up adopting.

I can't wait for this. I enjoyed (enjoyed?) the book and I love both of these actors. Plus, the new guy playing Kevin looks pretty good. Here's hoping the old theater (which used to be the good theater, but is now the crappy theater) which shows some smaller films these days will have this for a week or two.

Are they trying to keep the main plot a secret?

I doubt it. If it is anything like the book it'll be revealed very early on what happened. I mean, it's pretty often described as a book about a mother talking about her life and dealing with the aftermath of her son shooting up his school (that's how I describe it to my friends).

Thank you for making me feel better about not ever wanting to have children.

That's okay...my life is subtitled in French.

The only reason I ask is because there is nothing definitive to this trailer that leads us there. Right now it just looks like a very well shot movie inspired by the Omen.

I loved the book, though I should not have read it while pregnant! The trailer didn't hook me but I'm still gonna check this out. :)

The book was so engrossing that it took me about two weeks to process after finishing. The movie looks to do the same.

One of my most anticipated films this year.

SWINTON's animated GIF on yesterday's Pajiba Love stole my soul, so I feel nothing now.

The kid looks like the Joker.
