I Got No Sympathy for the Devil; But I'd Take Financial Advice from Him

I don’t think too many of us were looking particularly forward to Oliver Stone’s sequel to Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps. It’s been, what, 22 years since the original (Jesus, is that right?) Fans of Shia LaBeauf probably never even saw the original, and Carey Mulligan — excellent actress though she is — is not particularly well known.

But you know what? 1) A good sinister Michael Douglas role always seems appealing and none was better than Gordon Gekko, and 2) “Sympathy for the Devil” makes almost anything exciting. Seriously — the next time you make Hamburger Helper, try playing the Stones’ song while you’re eating it. It’ll taste so much better — and I hear that Rolling Stones’ music actually helps cut down on the sodium.

Check out the spankin’ new trailer:

We tried playing the Shia LeBeef "NO NO NO!" drinking game one night...

3 of us died...

This movie looks is quite mehsauce.

The only LeBeef movie I've ever seen was Holes. It was a good movie but he wasn't that great in it.

I have all the same complaints I had the last time you posted news about this POS movie, but that won't stop me from suffixing things I don't like with a colon + Money Never Sleeps.

So... I'm confused. This movie is not per se about Gordon Gecko returning to Wall Street in its current incarnation, it's some sort of romance? WTH?

Posted by: MM at February 20, 2010 3:31 PM

I actually liked the previous trailer -- the one focused on Douglas' Gecko.

More of him and less Shia and I'll be happy.

Michael Douglas? Yes. Sequel of Wall street? Yes. LaPoof? Noooooooooooo!!!

So if you meet me, have some courtesy
Have some sympathy and some taste
Use all your well-earned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste

Top five best rock songs ever.

Now I need to find a karaoke bar ...

Attention Carey Mulligan and 99% of women out there: you look terrible with really short hair. For Jebus's sake, grow it out.

Hopefully this flop will teach Stone a lesson:

NEVER cast Shia LeDoodo in anything you expect to be taken seriously. I won't watch it because he's in it, it's what I call my, Zoey Deschanel protocol.

kiss my ass, sausage king.

Mr.Froman, should you need any assistance here I have a good friend in the Chicago P.D. just ask for Sgt. Petersen, tell him Slim sent ya.

Funny how they never show Shia's freeballing crotch, which is clearly visible in many of the stills, in the trailer.

My husband loved the original Wall Street but he couldn't even pull Shia Le-What's-his-face out of a line-up, so I don't know if even he'd go for this.

I have to see it at some point, a bunch of those scenes were filmed at my alma mater, and I'm nostalgic.

D-Day, read the book; it's so much better than the movie was. And I don't even like Louis Sachar.

COMMAndo, if you lived in LA, I would totally go with you. There are few things closer to my heart than a good karaoke howling session.

Abe, I actually like the short cut on Mulligan. She's cute enough to pull it off.

This movie looks lame. I actually never saw Wall Street, but the fact that the studio thinks they can still make money off a sequel twenty-two years later speaks to the original's quality.

That said, I'm pretty sure that the sequel will suuuuuuck.

My game's nature must be puzzling you.

I LOVE Carey Mulligan's short hair do. It's adorable. Every woman should get their hair cut short.

Is that ring Morganite? Cheapass engagement ring.

"Everyone's drinking the same Koolaid." ??? Does anyone even remember the Reverend Jim Jones? I think that comment is going to be lost on most of the audience.

Posted by: BWeaves at February 22, 2010 10:01 AM

BWeaves,

Enough to know it wasn't Kool-Aid they drank. Think it was Flavor Aid.

*looks it up*

Yep, Flavor Aid and cyanide.

I wonder how the Kool-Aid people feel about the confusion. You never hear them bitching or sending around "cease and desist" e-mails about trademark infringement, so "drink the Kool-Aid" must, ironically, be good for business.
