I Like My Coffe Like I Like JGL: Smooth and Delicious

Man alive, you know I dig me some Joseph Gordon-Levitt (SRL Thought: Best child actor turned adult movie star?), but I’m not really feeling the trailer for Uncertainty, a movie that’s flown under the radar (and may have been sitting on a shelf for awhile). It stars JGL and Lynn Collins (Wolverine), the poor woman’s Michelle Monaghan, and even features that tasty, tasty high-hat word Olivia Thirlby.

Unfortunately, an attractive, talented cast and indie pedigree are not always a winning combination — Uncertainty seems to be a victim of its gimmicky premise: “A young couple, in love and facing a life-changing decision, find one seemingly ordinary July 4th cleaved in two by the flip of a coin on the Brooklyn Bridge.” In one direction is Eagle Eye and in the other direction, She’s Having a Baby, which is to say: Two bad movies for the price of one.

Maybe it’ll be a pleasant surprise. But the fact that it’s hit three film festivals already, and I haven’t heard of it (despite man crush 2.0) doesn’t bode well:

Mash-up time! Yay! Take two bad movies and put them together to make a worse one.

I don't care, it's got JGL? I'm watching.

Also, I gasped at your She's Having a Baby snub. Poor young Kevin Bacon. I still cry at the Woman's Work scene, so there.

I'll admit, I'm scared this is going to suck big time. However, JGL manages to make even bad movies mildly entertaining. He sure as hell made G.I. Joe more fun. If he continues making movies like Brick and (500) Days of Summer; then he can slip in a couple massacres to pad the old resume, and I'll still admire how the man wears a suit.

This Woman's Work is one of the reasons that, if there was no God, I would worship Kate Bush.

I loves me some JGL, but this looks terrible. I'll still see it... on Netflix... Instant Play.

Mash up idea: TwiHigh School Musical: Sing and Sparkle

I don't know - a Sliding Doors/ Choose-Your-Own-Adventure about whether or not to have a kid? Do you think they flip the coin every time they have a decision to make?

Oh, and I'm going to have to go with Jodie Foster for best child/adult actor.

Is it just me or is JGL looking A LOT like Heath Ledger in the header pic?

Posted by: PissBoy at October 14, 2009 10:56 AM

that tasty, tasty high-hat

Wha?! Is that a For Those Of Y'all Who Wear Fanny Packs reference?

Posted by: pissant at October 14, 2009 10:58 AM

Pissboy you totally stole my thought. At first glance, I thought JGL was Heath Ledger. Creepy, but not a bad thing at all.

Transformers II-The Hottie and the Nottie-A movie that focuses soley on the romantic entanglements of the two "comic relief" transformers.

Excuse me while I... Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

okay thats done. Yes, I'll see this.

Posted by: Kate at October 14, 2009 11:12 AM

Pissboy, I first started thinking that years ago with Brick and then they both landed in my 5. Watching 10 things is kinda creepy now. Oh, the dimples!

"SRL Thought: Best child actor turned adult movie star?"

JGL is an adult movie star? I'd watch that porno.

Posted by: logar at October 14, 2009 11:17 AM

Hellooooooo cheekbones. I want to invite JGL over for dinner and a movie...we could watch Drag Me to Hell and I'd make him my famous (in my head) spicy chicken lettuce wraps, and we'd drink a bottle of wine, and we'd talk about our favorite books, and then we'd cuddle all snuggly like. Then the molesting starts.

Posted by: Julie at October 14, 2009 11:18 AM

Your man-crush aside, the obvious answer is Jodie Foster and it's silly to even ask.

Posted by: Tracer Bullet at October 14, 2009 11:29 AM

Christian Bale anyone?

Posted by: hh at October 14, 2009 11:37 AM

I'll definitely give this one a go - it's got enough to hook me with JGL and at least some intrigue.

Posted by: Cindy at October 14, 2009 12:22 PM

Don't forget (in no particular order)

Kurt Russell

Mickey Rooney

Judy Garland

Natalie Wood

Ron Howard

Sean Penn (does he count? or was he too old in his first movies)

ScarJo (just kidding)

Oh look it's that chick from The Wackness.

Speaking of said movie, I worked on a different movie that the producer of The Wackness did. It had Hugo Weaving, Jack Davenport and Brian Cox in it, it was about insurance fraud in the 70s. There was a relationship between Hugo's character and another dude woven into the plot. Hugo was pretty cool.

Anyway I haven't heard fuck-all about it. Movies get shelved, lost in executive hell. Whatcha gonna do.

This trailer made me think that Uncertainty might be a decent movie, but it didn't really make me want to see it. So I don't know how successful it's going to be.

Posted by: Alexandra at October 14, 2009 2:09 PM

My crush on him is tweenybopper & immature that I actually got pretty pissy at Lynn Collins when I saw the hints of a love scene in the trailer.

Posted by: CiCi at October 14, 2009 4:38 PM

I have only one question for JGL: What in the bowels of the Godtopus made you do G.I. Joe? Was the paycheck really that good?

Thank you and good night.

Posted by: bignick at October 14, 2009 5:32 PM

Tommy is looking more and more like Heath Ledger. I think we got our Joker substitute right there.

Posted by: zito at October 14, 2009 7:23 PM

PissBoy: Is it just me or is JGL looking A LOT like Heath Ledger in the header pic?

Not at all. I often thought that JGL had a more-than-passing resemblance to Heath on a number of occasions. They have the same kind of eyes and mouth for a start. It's one of those "Separated at birth? Nah, not really, but man, the similarity!" kind of cases.

Posted by: vic at October 14, 2009 8:19 PM

^Aw, crap. By that "Not at all," I meant that it's just not you.

I need stronger caffeinated beverages.

Posted by: vic at October 14, 2009 8:20 PM

That's funny, I like my coffe like I like my women. In need of some E.

Posted by: SaBrina at October 14, 2009 9:02 PM

I also like my coffee the way I like my women; obedient.

Posted by: Daniel Hall at October 14, 2009 9:54 PM

You guys are crazy. I just pour coffee on my women.
