The Norwegian film Troll Hunter has been quietly on my radar for almost a year now. It’s a clever, somewhat tongue-in-cheek, faux documentary-style look at the possibility of mythology being real — if you just know where to look. The imagery is fantastical and surprisingly beautiful in parts, as is the sheer scale of the monsters.

It looks hella fun.

Here’s an earlier trailer. It’s a good bit longer and a lot more action-oriented. And looks just as enjoyable. Also, you gotta love the tagline: “The most important movie of our time is Norwegian.” Awesome.

Troll Hunter will be showing at the Boston International Film Festival, and I’m gonna watch the shit out of it.

Why do I have an uncontrollable urge to write something inflammatory and combative here?

Really?
An internet troll joke?
That's all we have here?

I thought the troll joke was pretty funny!

Honestly, these trolls make the one from Harry Potter's first film seem positively cuddly by comparison.

"You have to pay toll to Da Troll!"

I'd love to see this become a hit. We need some troll love.

...and my intense desire to see this has not waned even slightly.

Nostrilcam. Green nostrilcam.

That said, I thought trolls turned to stone in daylight. Just bring a sunlamp and a tanning bed and tan them to death. Right?

I thought the Muslim joke at the end was funny. I mean that in a nice way. Is there a nice way to say that?

fuck this looks awesome. it's a tricky thing to get the humor just right but they seem to have done that. i await your review and will hope for the best. it's about time we had a god-damned (since they seem to hate christians) troll movie that was worth a shit

So, at the meta level is a joke about internet trolling on a post about a troll movie that enrages someone enough to make an immediate comment about it some sort of post-modern trolling? Or am I just an ass?

Posted by: Mrcreosote at April 26, 2011 11:48 AM

I think I'm more excited for this than any other movie in the past few years.

Posted by: Paultera at April 26, 2011 11:48 AM

Unless Logan was trolling your troll. Then the amount of meta could very well implode the universe.

Saw this film at the Adelaide film festival and thought it was fantastic. The effects are brilliant, it has some great humour and some likable characters too. Would make a good double feature with District 9.

Since this is part of the awesomeness that is MAGNET releasing you can watch it VoD too (soon)! That's how I saw Rubber and Hobo with a Shotgun

What bothered me about this trailer was the lack of a boy's soul in peril. Or cat-eyed karate chopping villains.

Posted by: JustBill at April 26, 2011 1:37 PM

Hahaha. Awesome.

I'm with DeistBrawler on this looking awesome!

It can't be any worse than the Tyler Perry movies that keep getting ripped apart here!

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive, Mrcreosote.
