Man, Sharlto Copley seems determined to take the world by force. First he blew us away with his surprisingly nuanced portrayal of Wickus in the outstanding District 9, next he’s playing Murdock in The A-Team (OK, they can’t all be winners. Dude’s gotta eat, I say), and now he’s nearing the completion of his first directorial film, Spoon. Incidentally, I love the title. I’m a big fan of strange, cryptic titles.

Anyway, the film stars the blind Dutch samurai himself, Rutger Hauer (!) and a bunch of actors that I’ve never heard of. You gotta love Rutger Hauer, man. For every crapulent SyFy flick he does, he’s also got things like roles in Batman Begins. The dude is ubiquitous. He’ll outlive us all, the bastard. Anyway, the synopsis goeth thusly:

A thriller with supernatural overtones about a man with a medical condition that causes him to black out during moments of extreme stress and leads him to make a remarkable discovery about himself.

Interesting. I’m really hoping it’s good, because everything I’ve seen about Copley leads me to think he’s a pretty cool guy (not to mention that he’s a fellow countryman of mine). Here’s the very brief, very teaser-ish trailer:

Rutger Hauer was in Batman Begins. I'm wracking my brain, but it has apparently been too long since I've seen that movie. I feel completely ashamed.

This movie looks pretty interesting. For a relatively small-time actor, Sharlto is pretty goddamn awesome. Sometimes it's really heartening to see someone that truly deserves it make it big. Another that comes to mind would be Christoph Waltz.

That first sentence should have been a question.

I watched Split Second again recently and I have to say that Hauer is Awesome. Think I'm going to watch some Blind Fury later.

I'm disappointed that there wasn't one mention of The Tick in the write-up or the trailer. What's the world coming to?

Also, Hauer and Copley are awesome and I think that we should have some beers and violence.

Snath, he plays the (moderately) threatening businessman who is trying to sell off Wayne Enterprises. Lucius Fox get's to oust him at the end.

Oh wait...
SPOILER: He gets to oust him at the end.

Oh, you're right. Wow, that's not really a Rutger Hauer kind of role, so I didn't even put two and two together.

Snath: didn't you get the memo?

They should get on well with Hauer being Dutch and Copley being Afrikaans
