Further Lessons in How to Make a Movie Poster

It’s a little unusual to post the trailer and poster for a movie we’ve already reviewed (I caught it at IFF Boston), but in the case of Michael Winterbottom’s brutal but excellent The Killer Inside Me, it’s worth it. The film was a visceral, harsh experience, but also an amazingly well-executed film, and a brilliant adaptation of Jim Thompson’s ’50s noir novel. The story, about a small-town sheriff who secretly hides a sadistic monster behind an innocent visage, is a fascinating examination of the dark side of human nature, and Casey Affleck absolutely owns the part.
The poster, I must say, is fabulous.

It captures the retro-noir atmosphere nicely, and the jagged text is a nice touch as well. Poster makers, take note. You can do the giant floating head thing without it seeming generic.
There’s also a new trailer out over at Apple’s website, though it’s not quite as evocative as the original promo trailer, it’s still not too bad. So head over there and check it out, then come back and blather about it in the comments.

Who had money that Casey Affleck would be the more relevant brother? He was damn good in Shoot Brad Pitt in the Back of the Head.
