Three Of TV's Most Huggable Sitcom Stars And Emily Blunt Are In A Five-Year Engagement

The Five-Year Engagement is banking heavily on Judd Apatow’s presence in his producer’s chair, though without mentioning him by name and relying on the popularity of this summer’s Bridesmaids . If I were director Nick Stoller, who co-wrote Forgetting Sarah Marshall and The Muppets, and directed the former, I’d be a little hurt. Still, Apatow and Bridesmaids are probably considered an ad wizard’s safe bet, though Hollywood doesn’t exactly have the best track record in regards to wedding-themed comedies, so they really ought to be highlighting all the quality ingredients they’ve compiled here. Because most of those movies don’t star Jason Segel,Chris Pratt, and another TV star who I’m not going to mention because her appearance (and role) was quite surprising the first time I watched the below trailer — suffice to say, she has a strong community of fans. Ahem.

Of course, Emily Blunt, who you may be excused for confusing her with both Katy Perry and Zooey Deschanel, is no slouch, either. Especially when getting shot with an arrow. See for yourself:

That’s right, Annie Edison with a British accent! If you thought Alison Brie couldn’t be any more adorable, you and I were clearly mistaken. Admittedly, this wasn’t a rollicking, laugh out loud trailer for a comedy about a consistently delayed wedding ceremony, but there were some fun moments. And that cast is at least worth giving this a shot come April 2012. Jason Segel has yet to disappoint in a movie, and Chris Pratt is quickly proving himself to be an MVP in both film and television, so pairing them as brothers is particularly inspired. Though, the movie’s poster is a little too obvious for my tastes, but at least Blunt and Segel aren’t in some kind of war with another couple/bride/whatever. Other than wedding planning exasperation, anyway.

Rob Payne also writes the indie comic The Unstoppable Force, tweets on the Twitter @RobOfWar, and his ware can be purchased here. He’s pretty sure that Alison Brie’s Christian Bale Batman voice is only a smidge more endearing than her British accent here.

Why on earth would you think that anyone would ever confuse beautiful, talented, elegant Emily Blunt with either Zooey Deschanel or Katy Perry?

Posted by: PaddyDog at December 8, 2011 11:07 AM

I would never confuse Emily Blunt for Katy Perry or Zooey Deschanel, because Emily Blunt serves a useful purpose in popular culture.

As a general rule I despise rom-coms. I may have to make an exception. Also, I would like to reiterate what PaddyDog said.

No, no, you guys are right. Emily Blunt exceeds Perry and Deschanel in almost every way, but I can't help but think they could all be clones of each other. Sort of like Michael Keaton in Multiplicity. They started with Blunt, then Deschanel, then Perry, and each copy is somehow lesser than the previous, and much lesser than the original.

But, come on! They have nearly identical facial features!

Everything that's already been said about Emily Blunt. Also, I would probably watch her in anything.

Posted by: rob at December 8, 2011 11:35 AM

Maybe I'm just picking on her because she wouldn't have sex with me, but I think Allison Brie's fake brit accent is hilarious.

Posted by: thesmedt at December 8, 2011 11:35 AM

I can see confusing Zooey and Katy...but Emily Blunt having nearly identical facial features as them...really? No.

This movie is so many shades of adorable I can't stand it.

I agree with PaddyDog. Really, people, they're all brunettes with big eyes and they're all pretty, but it ends there.

So...I'm the only person around here who is underwhelmed by Alison Brie, yes? Just checking.

I, too, despise rom-coms but unless this trailer is horribly misleading this film looks as if it abandons many of the tropes that make me despise the genre:
1. They're already in a relationship: she's not a single girl desperate for a man
2. She has what looks to be a reasonable career (not a world-renowned wine expert at 25 for once)
3. She's willing to postpone her wedding for her career (Hallelujah!)
4. She wears ordinary clothes most of the time that actual normal people wear (no designer dresses with heels for everyday life: double Hallelujah!)
5. Their house is normal-sized
6. Michigan actually looks cold, not just fake snow on a Hollywood street cold
7. Emily Blunt

No, Joker, you aren't the only one. I think she's adorable enough on Community but I've never understood Pajiba's obsession with her.

Emily Blunt is another matter entirely. I don't normally see movies like this but I'll probably pay money to see this just for her.

This movie looks good.
Emily Blunt is far superior to Zooey, and even putting her name in the same sentence as Katy Perry throws off the balance of the universe.
No, Joker, you are not the only one.
And yes to all 7 of PaddyDog's points.

6. Michigan actually looks cold, not just fake snow on a Hollywood street cold

It was actually filmed in Ann Arbor. I'd recognize those tree lights anywhere (and also the Michigan Theater when Emily gets smashed by the car door).

OMG was that Susan St James??

Posted by: Amanda at December 8, 2011 1:35 PM

Yeah, Michigan blows.

Okay, naysayers, I added a link to a Google search, where I make the comparison, that shows I'm at least not the only crazy person who thinks Blunt, Perry, and Deschanel look eerily similar. Feel free to check that out at your leisure.

It was filmed in Ann Arbor... but in late March. Funny how real that fake snow looks!

Holy crap, I would have never seen the resemblance of Emily Blunt to Zooey and Katy without that link, but DAMN. Either way, Emily is still the winner there, no matter what Pinky McLadybits might tell you.
