This Movie Opened in the Summer of 2004 and Featured Jane Lynch and Steve Carell. Can You Name It?

This is wild, folks. In researching another story, I ran across a 2004 movie that I’d never heard of, though it featured Jane Lynch and Steve Carrel. It even managed to make $10 million opening against another Steve Carrel film, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, so it’s not exactly obscure.

More than that, it also stars quite a few names you probably don’t know, but whose faces you’d recognize: Sam Huntington, for instance, who is in the American version of the television series, “Being Human.” Also, Alexa Vega, star of the Spy Kids franchise; Sara Paxton, who was in The Last House on the Left remake and the upcoming Shark Night 3D; Brie Larson, the sister in “The United States of Tara”; Scout Taylor-Compton, star of the Halloween remake; Hunter Parish (Silas in “Weeds”), and even Douglas Smith, the older brother in “Big Love.”

It’s not exactly the Almost Famous, Empire Records or School Ties of “He/She Was In That?” films (H/T Joanna), but I thought it notable as a film I’d never heard of with so many recognizable faces (not to mention Jeff Garlin).

Has anyone heard of it? Seen it? Own it?

It's something about a sleepover, isn't it? Is it called "Sleepover"? I can't see the trailer at work.

You forgot about the oh-so-delectable Sean Faris, formerly of such noteworthy films like Yours, Mine & Ours and Never Back Down! I ordered this movie on demand while hanging out with my BFF so we could watch it and remember our sleepover days...and then we actually enjoyed it. This may or may not be due to a shot of Sean Faris in his boxers...

[Raises hand]
I went to see it with my friends when we were all "not quite ourselves." For the following Christmas, I received 2 copies of the DVD. And I have watched it since then. And it's so horribly great.

I saw Martin Short talk about something he and his friends like to do at parties. They call it "My Showbiz Moment" and they show and/or tell about their worst job in the business.

Hahaha I've totally seen this movie. It's great for a so-bad-its-good kind of night. It has that weird ABC Family sexuality: liberal with the shirtless men, but weirdly uptight about showing sexual stuff otherwise.

I have seen it, I remember it being ok, but nothing too remarkable.

Can't see the trailer at work but I remember it from the header pic and the cast list. It was some sort of a sleepover, and a scavenger hunt was involved. I think the gf and I watched it one bored afternoon on fox family or something.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I knew exactly what movie you were referring to when I saw the header pic. It's not very memorable. However, I did not know Jane Lynch was in it...hmm.

Anyone know if it's on Netflix instant watch?

The most important thing about this movie is that its craptastic poster inspired the Go Fug Yourselves website, if memory serves.

Sorry Super, it's not available for instant viewing.

Oh dear lord. Now I kind of want to see this movie. Luckily, my middle-aged brain will forget all about it in a couple of days.

Whoa, I think I remember this. I think I watched it once while I was terribly sick and going through some cold-medicine-induced hysteria. Or parts of it, anyway? I think there's a bit where the girls dress up and they look like idiots and it made me sad and the unicorn in my room said he hated it.

You forgot to mention that nerd goddess Summer Glau has a small role.

And yes, I have seen this movie. I have seen this movie multiple times. It's not horrible, but it's just okay.

Seen it.

Enjoyed it.

I regret nothing.

(Yes, I knew the movie from the title. As I said, I REGRET NOTHING.)

Saw it with my little sister on cable. The only amusing thing for me was seeing Carell in it (that was way back then, when I had just seen The Office season 2)

It's available on Netflix Canada.
